Analyze the role of the nurse at the end of the life of a critically ill patient. ⋯ the described roles place the nurse as a key element in humanising death in the ICU and so nurses can and must lead change, playing an active role in creating strategies that really promote the integration of a palliative care approach in ICU.

Review[Need for the role of the patient's family members at the intensive care unit].
To know the current status for the role of family members in the intensive care unit and its evolution, analyzing areas for improvement and learning about the nursing role. ⋯ Solving the need for this role decreases anxiety and stress on relatives and patients. Their implication on the patient process enhances and helps professionals to know the patient's background.

Review[Innovations in continuing/permanent education methods for the intensive care nurses].
Intensive care nursing is carried out in a dynamic environment characterized by the continuous incorporation of new technologies, approaches to care and a request for safety, participation and transparency by the public. Continuing/permanent intensive care nursing training in the acquisition of new competencies is key in this setting. ⋯ At the same time research should be done on which attitudes, competences, and knowledge are necessary to increase their intellectual knowledge. The core characteristics of ICU and its nursing should allow a deep change in their approach to continuing/permanent nursing education.

Review[Limitation of therapeutic effort: Approach to a combined view].
Over the past few decades, we have been witnessing that increasing fewer people pass away at home and increasing more do so within the hospital. More specifically, 20% of deaths now occur in an intensive care unit (ICU). However, death in the ICU has become a highly technical process. ⋯ It is within this context that the situation of the clinical procedure called "limitation of the therapeutic effort" (LTE) is reviewed. This has become a true bridge between Intensive Care and Palliative Care. Its final goal is to guarantee a dignified and painless death for the terminally ill.

Review[Nursing knowledge about hypothermia induced after cardiopulmonary arrest: literature review].
This paper aims to conduct a review of current scientific evidence on therapeutic hypothermia (TH) induced after cardiac arrest (CA).To examine the published literature; existing nursing knowledge; and the pursuit of the proper role of nursing. ⋯ This work shows clear evidence of the use of TH induced after CA, and the literature and knowledge required for nursing to interpret their own role, and to introduce standardised protocols for ICUs.
