Fall-induced injuries represent a major public health concern for older individuals. The relationship between risk of falling and the severity of locomotive syndrome (LS) remains largely unknown. ⋯ Postoperative patients with cervical myelopathy had a 62% prevalence of LS. The GLFS-25 may be useful to predict the risk of recurrent falls in patients with cervical myelopathy.

Management of a displaced comminuted patellar fractures is challenging, and various surgical fixation methods have been suggested. However, issues of loss of reduction and breakage of fixatives have not yet been resolved. In the current study, we describe a new technique for exposure and stabilization of comminuted patellar fractures and evaluate the clinical and radiologic outcomes of this new treatment. ⋯ Articular fixations with headless compression screws under direct visual reduction of the articular surface resulted in good clinical outcomes and were considered clinically effective for comminuted patellar fractures.

Comparison of outcomes between partially healed and acute metaphyseally malaligned distal radial fracture treated by palmar locking plate fixation.
The purpose of this study was to determine whether a partially healed (surgical delay of 2-6 weeks) metaphyseally malaligned distal radius fracture (DRF) treated using the extended palmar approach with palmar locking plate fixation has poorer clinical or radiological outcomes than those of acute (surgical delay of ≤2 weeks) metaphyseally unstable DRF treated by palmar locking plate fixation. ⋯ Partially healed metaphyseally malaligned healed DRFs had inferior clinical outcomes to acute metaphyseally unstable DRFs in an early postoperative period, however, achieved similar clinical outcomes at 1 year postoperatively when treated using palmar locking plate fixation.

Clinical impact of JOABPEQ mental health scores in patients with low back pain: Analysis using the neuropathic pain screening tool painDETECT.
In patients with low back pain (LBP) who combine psychosocial factors with clinical findings of pain, there is a possibility that the psychosocial factors modify the pain. In the current study, we investigated the relationship between the Japanese Orthopaedic Association Back Pain Evaluation Questionnaire (JOABPEQ) mental health score and the characteristics of LBP. ⋯ We found that psychological factors may modify pain intensity and may lead to an exaggerated or histrionic presentation of the pain, or neuropathic LBP may be exacerbating psychological factors.

Suprascapular nerve repair is a widely-prioritized procedure for shoulder reconstruction following brachial plexus injury. Although this procedure only reconstructs glenohumeral joint motion, the standard clinical assessment of shoulder function also includes the scapulothoracic joint contribution. The purpose of this preliminary study was to develop an objective method to accurately analyze shoulder abduction following suprascapular nerve repair in brachial plexus injury patients. ⋯ The conventional measurement of shoulder global abduction with goniometer is not an appropriate method to analyze the results of suprascapular nerve repair in brachial plexus palsy patients. We recommend examination of glenohumeral and scapulothoracic motions separately with dynamic shoulder radiographic analysis. With scapulothoracic contribution to the global shoulder motion, the glenohumeral motion can be wrongly assessed.
