Efficacy of duloxetine by prior NSAID use in the treatment of chronic osteoarthritis knee pain: A post hoc subgroup analysis of a randomized, placebo-controlled, phase 3 study in Japan.
A previously conducted placebo-controlled, randomized, phase 3 study of 353 Japanese patients with knee osteoarthritis (OA) showed significant improvements for duloxetine vs placebo in pain and health-related quality of life (HRQoL) (ClinicalTrials.gov Identifier: NCT02248480). Reported here are post hoc subgroup analyses evaluating the efficacy of duloxetine according to the pattern of prior nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) use. ⋯ Duloxetine was consistently effective with respect to pain relief and HRQoL in Japanese patients with knee OA pain, regardless of the pattern of prior NSAID use.

Intramedullary nailing versus minimally invasive plate osteosynthesis for distal extra-articular tibial fractures: a prospective randomized clinical trial.
The purpose of this randomized clinical trial is to compare intramedullary nailing (IMN) versus minimally invasive plate osteosynthesis (MIPO) for the treatment of extra-articular distal tibial shaft fractures. ⋯ Results of our study showed that both treatment methods have similar therapeutic efficacy regarding functional outcomes and can be used safely for extra-articular distal tibial shaft fractures, and none of the techniques had a major advantage over the other.

Weight bearing the same day versus non-weight bearing for 4 weeks in Achilles tendon rupture.
Achilles tendon rupture (ATR) often occurs in 40- to 50-year-old men. Multiple studies discuss the correct treatment strategy based on surgical or nonsurgical intervention, including early mobilization. We aimed to compare the outcomes of bearing weight on the same day with non-weight bearing over a 4-week period of ATR patients. ⋯ This study showed that a well-conducted early-weight-bearing treatment has good clinical outcomes, with a complication rate no higher than non-weight-bearing treatment.

Efficacy of tramadol-acetaminophen tablets in low back pain patients with depression.
Tramadol-acetaminophen tablets are currently used to treat pain, including that of degenerative lumbar disease. Although there are many reports on tramadol-acetaminophen tablets, treatment outcomes in low back pain (LBP) patients with depression remain uncertain. This study investigated the outcomes of LBP patients with depression treated with tramadol-acetaminophen tablets. ⋯ This investigation found that tramadol-acetaminophen is effective for reducing LBP and provided a prophylactic antidepressant effect in chronic LBP patients with depression.

The effect of two different trochanteric nail lag-screw designs on fixation stability of four-part intertrochanteric fractures: a clinical and biomechanical study.
To compare lag-screw sliding characteristics and fixation stability of two cephalomedullary nails (CMN) with different lag-screw designs (solid and telescopic), we conducted a biomechanical study and an analysis of clinical results. ⋯ Both designs are acceptable devices for stabilization of intertrochanteric fractures. Clinical and biomechanical data demonstrate greater lateral sliding in the solid lag-screw group, making for greater potential for lateral-sided hip pain in CMNs with solid lag screws as opposed to telescoping lag screws.
