Causal Analysis of World Health Organization's Surgical Safety Checklist Implementation Quality and Impact on Care Processes and Patient Outcomes: Secondary Analysis From a Large Stepped Wedge Cluster Randomized Controlled Trial in Norway.
We hypothesize that high-quality implementation of the World Health Organization's Surgical Safety Checklist (SSC) will lead to improved care processes and subsequently reduction of peri- and postoperative complications. ⋯ When implemented well, the SSC improved operating room care processes; subsequently, high-quality SSC implementation and improved care processes led to better patient outcomes.

To update, clarify, and extend IDEAL concepts and recommendations. ⋯ The intention of this article is to widen the practical use of IDEAL by clarifying the rationale for and practical details of the Recommendations. Additional research based on the experience of implementing these Recommendations is needed to further improve them.

Patient-specific 3D Printing: A Novel Technique for Complex Pediatric Renal Transplantation.
The authors investigated a novel application of patient-specific three-dimensional (3D) printing, to enhance preoperative, multidisciplinary planning in complex, living-donor pediatric renal transplantation. ⋯ We report the new and safe integration of patient-specific 3D printing into complex pediatric renal transplantation. This technique enhances surgical planning and can inform operative feasibility in those cases which would otherwise be uncertain.

To characterize national trends in procedural management of renal trauma. ⋯ National trends for procedural management of renal trauma are toward less invasive interventions. These trends suggest favorable change towards renal preservation and decreased morbidity, potentially facilitated, in part, by improved radiographic staging and endovascular techniques, and also increased provider awareness of the safety and value of conservative management.

To evaluate the impact of repeat surgery for recurrence on the long-term survival after 2-stage hepatectomy (TSH) for extensive colorectal liver metastases (CRLM). ⋯ Repeat surgery for recurrence after TSH may be crucial for the long-term survival in patients with extensive bilobar CRLM. Intensive oncosurgical surveillance is essential to avoid missing the chance for repeat surgery after TSH.
