The aim of this study was to perform a systematic review and meta-analysis to assess the accuracy of different surgical axillary staging procedures compared with ALND. ⋯ Axillary staging by a combination procedure consisting of SLNB with excision of a pre-NST marked positive lymph node appears to be most accurate for axillary staging after NST. More evidence from prospective multicenter trials is needed to confirm this.

PD-L1 Expression, Tumor-infiltrating Lymphocytes, and Clinical Outcome in Patients With Surgically Resected Esophageal Cancer.
To examine the prognostic impact of the programmed death ligand 1 (PD-L1) expression, tumor-infiltrating lymphocyte (TIL) status, and their combination in esophageal cancer. ⋯ PD-L1 expression was associated with an unfavorable clinical outcome in esophageal cancer, supporting its role as a prognostic biomarker. In addition, the combination with TIL status enabled further classification patients according to clinical outcome. PD-L1 expression and TIL status may serve as predictive tissue biomarkers and can be used for patient selection in clinical trials of drugs targeting the PD-1/PD-L1 pathways.

Use of Prophylactic Mesh When Creating a Colostomy Does Not Prevent Parastomal Hernia: A Randomized Controlled Trial-STOMAMESH.
The aim of this study was to determine whether parastomal hernia (PSH) rate can be reduced by using synthetic mesh in the sublay position when constructing permanent end colostomy. The secondary aim was to investigate possible side-effects of the mesh. ⋯ The use of reinforcing mesh does not alter the rate of PSH. No difference in complication rate was seen between the 2 arms. Based on these results, the prophylactic use of mesh to prevent PSH cannot be recommended.

Computer vision was used to predict expert performance ratings from surgeon hand motions for tying and suturing tasks. ⋯ The computer algorithm consistently predicted the panel ratings of individual tasks, and were more objective and reliable than individual assessment by surgical experts.
