To investigate if ischemia alters donor kidney metabolism and whether these changes associate with organ function. ⋯ Perfusate metabolite changes during normothermic kidney perfusion represent a unique non-invasive opportunity to assess graft viability. These findings now need validation in transplant studies.

To evaluate the impact of prophylactic antibiotics on early infectious complications after central venous access device (VAD) placement in children with cancer. ⋯ Prophylactic antibiotics are associated with reduced early infectious complications after central VAD placement overall. Despite recommendations from multiple national organizations against prophylactic antibiotics, these findings suggest a benefit in children with malignancy undergoing tunneled line placement.

This study aimed to evaluate the effect of continuing preoperative aspirin monotherapy on surgical outcomes in patients receiving antiplatelet therapy (APT). ⋯ APT discontinuation following elective gastroenterological surgery increases the risk of thromboembolic consequences, whereas continuing preoperative aspirin greatly reduces this risk. The continuation of preoperative aspirin therapy in APT-received patients is considered one of the best alternatives for preventing thromboembolism during elective gastroenterological surgery.
