To understand medical interpreter's perspectives on surgical informed consent discussions and provide feedback for surgeons on improving these conversations. ⋯ Experienced interpreters highlighted multiple factors associated with effective and culturally tailored informed consent discussions. Surgeons should recognize interpreters' critical and complex roles, be cognizant of cultural variations among patients with LEP, and improve interpersonal and communication skills to facilitate effective understanding.

Compare rates and severity of recurrent acute diverticulitis in patients with and without solid organ transplant. ⋯ In this national analysis of commercially-insured patients with acute diverticulitis we found no statistically significant differences in recurrence between those with and without a history of solid organ transplant. We do not support an aggressive colectomy strategy based on concern for increased recurrence rate and severity in a solid organ transplant population.

The aim of this study was to investigate the association between storage time of transfused red blood cells and risks of infections after clean-contaminated surgery. ⋯ Prolonged storage time of transfused red blood cells was not associated with increased risks of infections after clean-contaminated surgery.

To assess the performance of our urology team against GMC guidelines for using chaperone during intimate clinical examination. ⋯ This is the first report using a scoring system for objective assessment of a pertinent topic such as the use of chaperone and its documentation. This managed to achieve a significant improvement in our practice.

This study aimed to identify risk-criteria available before the point of treatment initiation that can be used to stratify risk of obstruction in patients undergoing neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC) for high-risk colon cancer. ⋯ Safe selection for NAC for colon cancer can be informed by using two features that are available before treatment initiation and identify a small number of patients with high risk of preoperative obstruction.
