Long-term Mortality After Rapid Screening and Decolonization of Staphylococcus Aureus Carriers: Observational Follow-up Study of a Randomized, Placebo-controlled Trial.
To identify patients who benefit most from Staphylococcus aureus screening and decolonization treatment upon admission. ⋯ Detection and decolonization of S. aureus carriage not only prevents S. aureus surgical-site infections but also reduces 1-year mortality in surgical patients undergoing clean procedures. Such patients with a high risk of developing S. aureus infections should therefore be the primary target when implementing the screen-and-treat strategy in clinical practice.

Pancreatogastrostomy Versus Pancreatojejunostomy for RECOnstruction After PANCreatoduodenectomy (RECOPANC, DRKS 00000767): Perioperative and Long-term Results of a Multicenter Randomized Controlled Trial.
To assess pancreatic fistula rate and secondary endpoints after pancreatogastrostomy (PG) versus pancreatojejunostomy (PJ) for reconstruction in pancreatoduodenectomy in the setting of a multicenter randomized controlled trial. ⋯ The rate of grade B/C fistula after PG versus PJ was not different. There were more postoperative bleeding events with PG. Perioperative morbidity and mortality of pancreatoduodenectomy seem to be underestimated, even in the high-volume center setting.

Quality-of-life and Surgical Outcome 1 Year After Open and Laparoscopic Incisional Hernia Repair: PROLOVE: A Randomized Controlled Trial.
Patients suffering from an incisional hernia after abdominal surgery have an impaired quality of life (QoL). Surgery aims to improve QoL with a minimum risk of further complications. The aim was to analyze QoL, predictors for outcome, including recurrence and reoperation rates during the first postoperative year. ⋯ Patients with incisional hernia benefit substantially from surgery concerning QoL, independent of surgical technique. An event-free recovery occurred frequently after laparoscopic surgery. SF-36 seems well suited for assessing surgical outcome in patients after incisional hernia repair.

Laparoscopy Decreases Pulmonary Complications in Patients Undergoing Major Liver Resection: A Propensity Score Analysis.
To compare both incidence and types of postoperative pulmonary complications (PPCs) between laparoscopic major hepatectomy (LMH) and open major hepatectomy (OMH). ⋯ Pure laparoscopy allows reducing PPCs in patients requiring major liver resection.

Is the Combination of Distal Pancreatectomy and Cytoreductive Surgery With HIPEC Reasonable? Results of an International Multicenter Study.
To report the morbidity and risk factors for overall complications and for pancreatic fistula (PF) after distal pancreatic resection (DP) during cytoreductive surgery and hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (CRS/HIPEC). ⋯ With regard to reported morbi-mortality rates, DP associated with CRS/HIPEC may be a reasonable procedure in highly selected patients when done in high-volume centers. Therefore, distal pancreatic involvement should not be considered as a definitive contraindication for CRS/HIPEC in patients with resectable peritoneal surface disease.
