Randomized Controlled Trial Comparative Study
COMPARISON OF VITAMIN D REPLACEMENT STRATEGIES WITH HIGH-DOSE INTRAMUSCULAR OR ORAL CHOLECALCIFEROL: A PROSPECTIVE INTERVENTION STUDY.
To ascertain the frequency of correction of vitamin D deficiency (VDD) with single or multiple doses of oral (p.o.) and intramuscular (i.m.) administration of 2 high-dose preparations of vitamin D3 (VD3). ⋯ Two months after the intervention, VDD was corrected in more than 70% of participants with a single dose of either 600,000 or 200,000 IU given p.o. or i.m.

EFFECT OF HIGH-DOSE VITAMIN D REPLETION ON GLYCEMIC CONTROL IN AFRICAN-AMERICAN MALES WITH PREDIABETES AND HYPOVITAMINOSIS D.
This double-blind, randomized, controlled trial evaluated whether 12 months of high-dose vitamin D2 supplementation improved insulin sensitivity and secretion and glycemic status. ⋯ The trial does not provide evidence that 12 months of high-dose D2 repletion improves clinically relevant glycemic outcomes in subjects with prediabetes and hypovitaminosis D (NCT01375660).

Efficacy and safety of adding pioglitazone or sitagliptin to patients with type 2 diabetes insufficiently controlled with metformin and a sulfonylurea.
To evaluate the efficacy and safety of add-on pioglitazone versus sitagliptin in patients with type 2 diabetes inadequately controlled on metformin and a sulfonylurea (SU). ⋯ Pioglitazone and sitagliptin achieved similar improvements in overall glycemic control in patients with type 2 diabetes inadequately controlled with metformin and an SU. However there were some differences in terms of FPG, hs-CRP, lipids, body-weight change, and AEs.

Effect of dexamethasone on glucose homeostasis in normal and prediabetic subjects with a first-degree relative with type 2 diabetes mellitus.
To determine the effect of a single 8-mg orally administered dose of dexamethasone or placebo on glucose and insulin homeostasis, during an oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT) performed before and 24 hours after the administered dose. ⋯ In a study population in which all subjects had at least one first-degree relative with type 2 diabetes mellitus, those with prediabetes were more insulin resistant and had a lower disposition index than did subjects with NGT. Subjects with prediabetes also had a pronounced decrease in disposition index when challenged with a single 8-mg orally administered dose of dexamethasone.

Effect of an educational Inpatient Diabetes Management Program on medical resident knowledge and measures of glycemic control: a randomized controlled trial.
To investigate the effectiveness of an Inpatient Diabetes Management Program (IDMP) on physician knowledge and inpatient glycemic control. ⋯ An IDMP was effective at improving physician knowledge for managing hyperglycemia in hospitalized patients treated with corticosteroids or in preparation for surgical procedures. Educational programs directed at improving overall health care provider knowledge for inpatient glycemic management may be beneficial; however, improvements in knowledge do not necessarily result in improved glycemic outcomes.
