LANREOTIDE THERAPY IN CARCINOID SYNDROME: PROSPECTIVE ANALYSIS OF PATIENT-REPORTED SYMPTOMS IN PATIENTS RESPONSIVE TO PRIOR OCTREOTIDE THERAPY AND PATIENTS NAÏVE TO SOMATOSTATIN ANALOGUE THERAPY IN THE ELECT PHASE 3 STUDY.
This ELECT prospective analysis examined lanreotide depot/autogel for carcinoid syndrome (CS) symptom control in patients with neuroendocrine tumors (NETs) who were responsive to prior octreotide (prior octreotide group) compared with patients who were naïve to prior somatostatin analogue treatment (de novo group). ⋯ CI = confidence interval CS = carcinoid syndrome DB = double blind ELECT = Evaluation of Lanreotide depot/autogel Efficacy and safety as a Carcinoid-syndrome Treatment IOL = initial open-label IVRS/IWRS = interactive voice/web response system LS = least square NET = neuroendocrine tumor OR = odds ratio SC = subcutaneous SSA = somatostatin analogue SSTR = somatostatin receptor TEAE = treatment-emergent adverse event.

INPATIENT HYPOGLYCEMIC EVENTS IN A COMPARATIVE EFFECTIVENESS TRIAL FOR GLYCEMIC CONTROL IN A HIGH-RISK POPULATION.
Inpatient hypoglycemia (glucose ≤70 mg/dL) is a limitation of intensive control with insulin. Causes of hypoglycemia were evaluated in a randomized controlled trial examining intensive glycemic control (IG, target 140 mg/dL) versus moderate glycemic control (MG, target 180 mg/dL) on post-liver transplant outcomes. ⋯ DM = diabetes mellitus ICU = intensive care unit IG = intensive glycemic control MELD = Model for End-stage Liver Disease MG = moderate glycemic control SQ = subcutaneous.

EVALUATION OF LANREOTIDE DEPOT/AUTOGEL EFFICACY AND SAFETY AS A CARCINOID SYNDROME TREATMENT (ELECT): A RANDOMIZED, DOUBLE-BLIND, PLACEBO-CONTROLLED TRIAL.
To evaluate the efficacy and safety of lanreotide depot/autogel 120 mg for the control of carcinoid syndrome (CS) symptoms in patients with neuroendocrine tumors (NETs). ⋯ AE = adverse event BMI = body mass index CS = carcinoid syndrome ELECT = Evaluating Lanreotide Efficacy and safety as a Carcinoid-syndrome Treatment HRQoL = health-related quality of life LTOLE = long-term open-label extension NET = neuroendocrine tumor OL = open label SSA = somatostatin analog.

HOSPITAL INSULIN PROTOCOL AIMS FOR GLUCOSE CONTROL IN GLUCOCORTICOID-INDUCED HYPERGLYCEMIA.
To compare the effectiveness of 2 insulin protocols to treat glucocorticoid-induced hyperglycemia in the nonintensive care hospital setting. ⋯ NPH added to 3-part insulin regimen (CIO) may be an effective way to a combat glucocorticoid-induced hyperglycemia, though further research is needed in a larger population.

Randomized Controlled Trial Comparative Study
COMPARISON OF BASAL INSULIN REGIMENS ON GLYCEMIC VARIABILITY IN NONCRITICALLY ILL PATIENTS WITH TYPE 2 DIABETES.
To evaluate the impact of different subcutaneous basal insulin regimens on glycemic variability (GV) and hospital complications in non-intensive care unit (ICU) patients with type 2 diabetes (T2D). ⋯ Treating hospitalized, non-ICU, diabetic patients with Basal Plus insulin regimen resulted in similar glucose control and GV compared to the standard Basal Bolus insulin regimen. Higher GV was not associated with hospital complications.
