Healthcare utilization and cost effects of prior authorization for pregabalin in commercial health plans.
To compare changes in medication use and costs over time for management of painful diabetic peripheral neuropathy (pDPN) or postherpetic neuralgia (PHN) among patients in commercial health plans requiring prior authorization (PA) for pregabalin versus patients in plans without pregabalin PA policies. ⋯ A PA policy for pregabalin was associated with lower pregabalin utilization, but there was no statistically significant effect on pDPN- or PHN-specific medication or healthcare expenditures.

To investigate whether compliance during the first 2 years of statin therapy is associated with reduced hospitalization rates and direct medical costs during year 3. ⋯ Compliance with statin therapy in the first 2 years of use may reduce hospitalization rates and direct medical costs in the subsequent year.
