Use of the FITT framework to understand patients' experiences using a real-time medication monitoring pill bottle linked to a mobile-based HIV self-management app: A qualitative study.
The purpose of this work was to conduct an in-depth analysis to understand patients' experiences using a real-time medication monitoring pill bottle linked to an HIV self-management app. ⋯ This study demonstrated that tracking medication adherence and receiving push-notification medication reminders through the electronic pill bottle connected to the app encourages and supports PLWH in adhering to their medication regimens. Findings from this work highlight the importance of adequate consideration of the needs of intended users in designing customizable mobile health technology, including HIV-related stigma, disclosure of HIV status and antiretroviral therapy regimens.

Improving resident's skills in the management of circulatory shock with a knowledge-based e-learning tool.
Correct clinical management of circulatory shock in emergency departments (ER) and intensive care units (ICU) is critical. In this context, the transmission of professional skills by means of the practical supervision of real cases at the point of care entails important issues that can be widely overcome with the use of computer knowledge-based e-learning tools. ⋯ Web-oriented knowledge-based e-learning computer tools such as Shock-Instructor can significantly reduce the learning time of ER and ICU residents, while enhancing their assimilation of evidence-based medicine and both the survival rate and health condition of patients with shock.

Implementation and evaluation of an integrated computerized asthma management system in a pediatric emergency department: a randomized clinical trial.
The use of evidence-based guidelines can improve the care for asthma patients. We implemented a computerized asthma management system in a pediatric emergency department (ED) to integrate national guidelines. Our objective was to determine whether patient eligibility identification by a probabilistic disease detection system (Bayesian network) combined with an asthma management system embedded in the workflow decreases time to disposition decision. ⋯ The control and intervention groups were similar in regards to time to disposition; the computerized management system did not add additional wait time. The time to disposition decision did not change; however the management system integrated several different information systems to support clinicians' communication.

An asthma management system in a pediatric emergency department.
Pediatric asthma exacerbations account for >1.8 million emergency department (ED) visits annually. Asthma guidelines are intended to guide time-dependent treatment decisions that improve clinical outcomes; however, guideline adherence is inadequate. We examined whether an automatic disease detection system increases clinicians' use of paper-based guidelines and decreases time to a disposition decision. ⋯ Despite a high level of support from the ED leadership and staff, a focused education effort, and implementation of an automated disease detection, the use of the paper-based asthma protocol remained low and time to patient disposition did not change.

Is email an effective method for hospital discharge communication? A randomized controlled trial to examine delivery of computer-generated discharge summaries by email, fax, post and patient hand delivery.
To examine the effectiveness of delivering of computer-generated discharge summaries to general practice by email, fax, post and patient hand delivery. ⋯ Transmission of computer-generated discharge summaries by fax or email offers the most effective method of communicating with primary care physicians, as long as accurate contact information is available. Although fax is still the most preferred, email has many advantages that could potentially allow it to replace fax as a standard mode for delivery of discharge communication.
