Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter Study
Neuraxial block, death and serious cardiovascular morbidity in the POISE trial.
This post hoc analysis aimed to determine whether neuraxial block was associated with a composite of cardiovascular death, non-fatal myocardial infarction (MI) and non-fatal cardiac arrest within 30 days of randomization in POISE trial patients. ⋯ In patients at high risk of cardiovascular morbidity, neuraxial block was associated with an increased risk of adverse cardiovascular outcomes, which could be causal or because of residual confounding.

Monitoring depth of anaesthesia in a randomized trial decreases the rate of postoperative delirium but not postoperative cognitive dysfunction.
Monitoring depth of anaesthesia in those over 60 yo decreases the incidence of post-operative delirium, though not post-operative cognitive decline.

Is postoperative cognitive dysfunction a risk factor for dementia? A cohort follow-up study.
Postoperative cognitive dysfunction (POCD) is a common complication in elderly patients after major surgery. An association between POCD and the development of dementia has been suspected. In this study, we assessed if POCD was a risk factor for the occurrence of dementia. ⋯ POCD was not significantly associated with registered dementia over a median follow-up of 11 yr.

Although telemedicine is one of the key initiatives of the World Health Organization, no study has explored the feasibility and efficacy of teleanaesthesia. This bi-centre pilot study investigates the feasibility of transcontinental anaesthesia. ⋯ Transcontinental anaesthesia is feasible; control of anaesthesia shows good performance indexes. Clinical registration number NCT01331096.
