Review Meta AnalysisConsidering gemcitabine-based combination chemotherapy as a potential treatment for advanced oesophageal cancer: A meta-analysis of randomised trials.
Gemcitabine has been proved to be effective in many advanced cancer. However, almost all trials failed to demonstrate the response rate of gemcitabine-based combination schedules on oesophageal cancer (EC). ⋯ The improvements of gemcitabine-based combination chemotherapy on RR, CDR and reduction of gastrointestinal tract, hepatic and renal for EC patients suggests that the combined chemotherapy based on gemcitabine could be a potential treatment options for advanced EC.

Randomized Controlled TrialA randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical trial, evaluating the garlic supplement effects on some serum biomarkers of oxidative stress, and quality of life in women with rheumatoid arthritis.
Rheumatoid arthritis (RA), is a prevalent immune-inflammatory disease, which is associated with disabling pain. Oxidative stress might play a role in RA pathogenesis and outcomes. According to the antioxidant properties of garlic, the current study was performed to evaluate the garlic supplement effects on some serum levels of oxidative stress biomarkers, and quality of life in patients with rheumatoid arthritis. ⋯ The findings suggest that garlic supplementation for 8 weeks resulted in significant improvements in oxidative stress, HAQ in women with RA.

Necessity and concerns about lipid-lowering medical treatments and risk factors for non-adherence: A cross-sectional study in Palestine.
Strong evidence indicates that drugs reduce blood lipids and improve cardiovascular end-points, leading to their wide usage. However, the success of these drugs can be affected by poor patient's adherence to prescribed medication. This study aimed to evaluate medication adherence in patients with dyslipidaemia in association with patient beliefs about medicines. ⋯ Non-adherence among patients taking lipid-lowering agents was high despite most holding positive beliefs regarding medication necessity. This may be due to concern also being high. Physicians should identify and target high-risk patients and individualise their treatment plans in order to achieve adequate control of dyslipidaemia.
