Meta AnalysisHigh flow nasal cannula versus conventional oxygen therapy in postoperative patients at high risk for pulmonary complications: a systematic review and meta-analysis.
The effects of high flow nasal cannula (HFNC) on postoperative patients at high risk for pulmonary complications(PC) are controversial. We aimed to further determine the effectiveness of HFNC in postoperative patients at high risk for PC by comparison to conventional oxygen therapy (COT). ⋯ The available randomised controlled trials (RCTs) suggest that, among the postoperative patients at high risk for PC, HFNC therapy compared with the COT significantly reduces rate of incubation or NIV for RF and rate of hypercapnia, meanwhile is safely administered. Further large-scale, multicenter, randomised and controlled studies are needed to confirm our results.

Multicenter StudyThe Effect of Body Mass Index on Oncological and Surgical Outcomes in Patients Undergoing Radical Cystectomy for Bladder Cancer: A Multicenter Study of the Association of Urooncology, Turkey.
We aimed to evaluate the effect of body mass index (BMI) on oncological and surgical outcomes in patients who underwent radical cystectomy (RC) for bladder cancer (BC). ⋯ Our study showed that although major complications are more common in obese patients, the increase in BMI does not reveal a significant negative effect on OS, CSS, RFS and MFS.

Independent association of serum uric acid levels with arterial stiffness in the absence of established cardiovascular disorders.
The impact of serum uric acid (SUA) on atherosclerosis has been suspected to be epiphenomenal owing to its close relationship with metabolic abnormalities. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the association between SUA levels and arterial stiffness in the absence of established cardiovascular (CV) disorders. ⋯ High SUA levels have an independent association with increased arterial stiffness even in subjects without established CV disorders.

Where did all the trauma go? A rapid review of the demands on orthopaedic services at a U.K. Major Trauma Centre during the COVID-19 pandemic.
This retrospective study aims to quantify the early impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on trauma and orthopaedic surgery at a Major Trauma Centre (MTC) in the United Kingdom. We hypothesise that the social restrictions placed on the public by the government will reduce the amount of trauma presentations and operations performed. ⋯ The COVID-19 pandemic has had a profound effect of the provision of trauma and orthopaedic surgery. We report a significant decrease in all orthopaedic referrals during the pandemic, leading to a greatly reduced number of trauma operations performed. This has allowed for reallocation of staff and resources. We must plan for the lifting of social restrictions, which may lead to an increase in patients presenting with trauma requiring operative intervention.

The prospective relationship between low muscle mass and thyroid hormones among 198,069 euthyroid men and women; comparing different definitions of low muscle mass.
The impact of thyroid hormones within normal range on muscle mass remains unknown. We examined the association between new onset of low muscle mass (LMM) and thyroid hormones among euthyroid men and women with three different definitions of LMM in prospective cohort study. ⋯ Among euthyroid men, FT4 had inverse dose-response association with new onset of LMM defined with weight (LMM-W) and BMI (LMM-B). Height squared LMM (LMM-H) had no apparent relationship with any thyroid hormones. Euthyroid women had no dose-responsive association between thyroid hormones and incident LMM.
