Assessing Carbamazepine and Oxcarbazepine Associated Stevens-Johnson Syndrome/Toxic Epidermal Necrolysis: Data Mining the Public Version of the FDA Adverse Event Reporting System.
Stevens-Johnson syndrome and toxic epidermal necrolysis are viewed as the most severe drug-induced types of cutaneous adverse reactions, with high rates of morbidity and mortality. We aimed to examine carbamazepine- and oxcarbazepine-associated Stevens-Johnson syndrome or toxic epidermal necrolysis, by data mining the US Food and Drug Administration Adverse Event Reporting System (FAERS). ⋯ The results of our study are consistent with clinical observations, suggesting the necessity for further clinical research on Stevens-Johnson syndrome and toxic epidermal necrolysis associated with carbamazepine or oxcarbazepine.

Womens' self-management skills for prevention and treatment of recurring urinary tract infection.
The guideline on urinary tract infections (UTI) of the Dutch College of General Practitioners provides recommendations on patient-initiated treatment and prevention of recurring UTI. ⋯ Almost half of all women applied self-management (increased fluid intake, analgesics) before consulting a GP for recurring UTI. Awareness of preventive behavioural measures for recurring UTI varied considerably. Thus, education of women about the use of analgesics and behavioural measures deserves attention.

Dissemination of generic drug (GD) use could provide significant savings on drug expenditures and contribute to the long-term sustainability of healthcare. We aimed to exhibit the nationwide trend of GD use in primary care and investigate potentially relevant drug and patient factors. ⋯ This study shows a modest upward trend of GD utilisation in primary care, though its share appears to be lower than expected. GD use revealed a consistent reduction towards older age groups. GDs were more likely to be prescribed for acute conditions, particularly infectious diseases.
