The Effects of Using K-Wire or Titanium Elastic Nails on Clinical and Radiological Outcomes in the Métaizeau Closed Reduction Technique.
The purpose of this study was to compare the effects of using Kirschner-wire (K-wire) or titanium elastic nails (TEN) on the functional results of patients treated with the Métaizeau closed reduction technique, which is a popular treatment modality for pediatric radial neck fractures (PRNF). ⋯ The effect of K-wire or TEN used in the Métaizeau closed reduction technique on clinical outcomes is similar, and K-wire is more cost-effective.

Chronic Oral Anticoagulation Therapy and Prognosis of Patients Admitted to Hospital for COVID-19: Insights from the HOPE COVID-19 Registry.
Most evidence regarding anticoagulation and COVID-19 refers to the hospitalization setting, but the role of oral anticoagulation (OAC) before hospital admission has not been well explored. We compared clinical outcomes and short-term prognosis between patients with and without prior OAC therapy who were hospitalized for COVID-19. ⋯ Hospitalized COVID-19 patients on prior OAC therapy had a higher risk of mortality and worse clinical outcomes compared to patients without prior OAC therapy, even after adjusting for comorbidities using a PSM. There were no differences in clinical outcomes in patients previously taking VKAs or DOACs. This trial is registered with NCT04334291/EUPAS34399.

Histatins (Hsts) are considered a prominent member of antimicrobial peptides rich in histidine, bearing antifungal activity against Candida species. Hst5 is the most effective among them. Although Hst5 is not found in the cervicovaginal fluid, it has been detected in the human serum. ⋯ Hst5 levels were found to be significantly lower in the vaginal candidiasis group (p=0.001). We conclude that decreased salivary Hst5 levels in women are associated with vaginal candidiasis. Candida infection is a cause or result of lower salivary Hst5 levels, and it may be an important finding for the etiopathogenesis, diagnosis, and treatment of the disease, but further analysis is needed.

Long-Term Adherence and Persistence to Low-Dose Aspirin for the Prevention of Cardiovascular Disease: A Population-Based Cohort Study.
Using information from electronic health records in Germany and the United Kingdom (UK) in a common data model, we followed adults with ≥2 low-dose aspirin prescriptions (75-100 mg) during 2007-2018 for up to 10 years. Included individuals had no low-dose aspirin prescriptions in the year before the follow-up started (date of first low-dose aspirin prescription) and ≥12 months' observation. Adherence was determined using the medication possession ratio (MPR), and persistence was defined as continuous treatment disregarding gaps between prescriptions of <60 days; analyses were undertaken according to indication (primary/secondary CVD prevention). ⋯ Long-term adherence and persistence to low-dose aspirin are suboptimal; efforts for improvement could translate into a lower CVD burden in the general population.

Rural-Urban Determinants of Receiving Skilled Birth Attendants among Women in Bangladesh: Evidence from National Survey 2017-18.
SBAs (skilled birth attendants) play a crucial role in reducing maternal mortality. The proportion of maternal healthcare in Bangladesh that receives quality care at birth has increased; the reasons for this are unknown. The purpose of this study is to see if there has been a change in the use of specific maternal healthcare indicators in urban and rural areas, as well as significant risk factors. ⋯ During delivery, significant risk factors are substantially related to SBAs. More attention must be given to rural and illiterate populations, who are less likely to obtain these services, to minimize maternal and neonatal mortality. Special programs could be developed to raise awareness and facilitate the poor in receiving the basic necessities of maternal care.
