Meta AnalysisA systematic review and meta-analysis of non-adherence to anti-diabetic medication: Evidence from low- and middle-income countries.
Non-adherence to anti-diabetic medication is an important cause of uncontrolled blood glucose that leads to complications of diabetes. However, there is a lack of evidence on the burden of and factors associated with non-adherence to anti-diabetic medication among individuals living with diabetes in low-and middle-income countries (LMICs). ⋯ Non-adherence to anti-diabetic medication remains an ongoing challenge in LMICs and several factors operating at different levels were cited as reasons. Comprehensive intervention strategies are urgently needed to address these factors in effectively tackling medication non-adherence in LMICs.

Meta AnalysisCrimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever-induced liver injury: a systematic review and meta-analysis.
Crimean-Congo haemorrhagic fever (CCHF) is a fatal acute tick-borne viral infection and substantial emerging global public health threat. This illness has a high case fatality rate of up to 40%. The liver is one of the important target organs of the CCHF virus. ⋯ Our study shows that CCHF has a very detrimental effect on liver function. Abnormal liver function may lead to poor prognosis and increased morbidity and mortality in CCHF patients. Hence, Physicians must recognise and continuously monitor these biomarkers, since these markers may aid in early stratification of prognosis and the prevention of severe outcomes in infection with such a high case fatality rate.

Meta AnalysisDiagnostic accuracy of N-terminal pro-brain natriuretic peptide for Kawasaki disease: An updated systematic review and meta-analysis.
This study aimed to investigate the diagnostic accuracy of circulating N-terminal pro-brain natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP) for Kawasaki disease (KD). ⋯ NT-proBNP has moderate diagnostic accuracy for KD. It cannot be used for ruling in or ruling out KD when used alone.

Meta AnalysisAssociation between polymorphisms of cytokine genes and diabetic nephropathy: A comprehensive systematic review and meta-analysis.
Diabetic nephropathy (DN) is one of the microvascular complications of diabetes, leading to renal failure. In this study, we sought to systematically investigate the cytokine gene polymorphisms association with DN. ⋯ Overall, the pooled results showed that the dominant models of TNF-α rs1800629, IL-1β rs16944, IL-8 rs4073, and IL-10 rs1800896 were associated with increased susceptibility to DN. Also, the pooled analyses of the mutant allele vs wild allele of TNF-α rs1800629, rs1799964, IL-1β rs16944, and IL-8 rs4073 were associated with increased susceptibility to DN. Rs1800629, rs16944, rs4073, and rs1800896 polymorphisms were significantly associated with DN susceptibility, suggesting its potential use as a genetic risk marker in the population.

ReviewVitamin D recommendations in clinical guidelines: A systematic review, quality evaluation and analysis of potential predictors.
Vitamin D has been widely promoted for bone health through supplementation and fortification of the general adult population. However, there is growing evidence that does not support these strategies. Our aim is to review the quality and recommendations on vitamin D nutritional and clinical practice guidelines and to explore predictive factors for their direction and strength. ⋯ Policymakers, clinicians and patients should be aware that lower quality guidelines and those reporting conflicts of interest are more likely to promote vitamin D supplementation. Guideline organisations should improve the quality of their recommendations' development and the management of conflicts of interest. Users and editors should be aware of these findings when using and appraising guidelines.
