Background: Leadership competencies are essential for the future development of the field of palliative and hospice care. However, a consensus on the core competencies of good leadership is not yet available. Objective: To elicit consensus on core leadership competencies in palliative care. ⋯ One hundred fifteen items from eight domains of leadership (research, advocacy and media, communication, teamwork, project management, organizational learning and sustainability, leading change, and personal traits) reached consensus and were deemed as important. Conclusions: The eight domains provide evidence for teaching of leadership competencies in palliative care. We recommend that exploring, identifying, and integrating leadership competencies in palliative care are given more attention in educational curricula and in training interventions.

Background: Cannabis interest and use is increasing in the United States, yet research on its use among cancer patients is limited. Methods: Individuals with cancer completed an anonymous cross-sectional questionnaire. Multivariable logistic regressions estimated odds ratios (OR) between patients' demographic and clinical characteristics with cannabis-related interest, current use, and provider recommendation. ⋯ Those with higher education were less likely to be using cannabis (OR = 0.41, 95% CI: 0.25-0.67) and less likely to have received a provider recommendation of cannabis use than the least educated (OR = 0.38, 95% CI: 0.19-0.76). Cancer spread and type were significant correlates of provider recommendation of cannabis use. Conclusions: Additional research is warranted to better understand cancer patients' motivations for cannabis use and interest.

Background: Predictive health services modeling signals a shortage of board-certified Hospice and Palliative Medicine (HPM) physicians. Methods: This article introduces the Community Hospice and Palliative Medicine (CHPM) Fellowship, an Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) Advancing Innovation in Residency Education (AIRE) project designed to enable mid-career physicians (at least five years out from residency or fellowship) to achieve eligibility for board certification in HPM. Results: From 2020 to 2023, 24 fellows have completed or are currently participating in the CHPM fellowship which is evaluated using the Kirkpatrick model. Conclusion: This program shows promise in addressing the impending HPM workforce shortage by allowing physicians to complete a fellowship in their local communities.
