[Use of emergency rooms by so-called multiple users: results of a prospective study with special consideration of the migration status].
Can we identify predictive factors for the group of so-called multiple users (MU; 4 and more uses of an emergency department [ED] in the past 12 months)? Are people with a migration background more likely to be classified in the MU group? ⋯ MU burden the already increasing patient volume of ED. However, they represent a heterogeneous group of patients, among whom people with a migration background are not common. Further research is warranted to better understand the factors that lead to frequent use and to develop effective strategies to address the complex health needs of MUs.

[Implementation of a smartphone-based first-responder alerting system].
Shortening the resuscitation-free interval in cardiac arrest increases the survival rate. Smartphone-based systems can locate and alert nearby rescuers. ⋯ The resuscitation-free interval can be shortened by smartphone-based alerting systems. For successful operation, the total number of rescuers and the technical realization is crucial. Further studies are necessary to investigate whether the survival rate of out-of-hospital cardiac arrest can be increased. It appears extremely appropriate to adapt these systems to databases of quality management or research registers.

[Usability of an app to overcome language barriers in paramedic care].
Communication with foreign-speaking patients in emergency medical situations can be challenging. In contrast to the inpatient setting, adequate interpreters are often not readily available in emergency services. At the same time, however, emergency situations require rapid assessment as the basis for any treatment. ⋯ Given that the app studied is a complex work tool, its usability and attractiveness were rated as overall good, and paramedics who had already used the app rated it even more positively. This could indicate a hesitancy by some paramedics to use a complex digital tool in complex situations that are already characterized by language and cultural barriers.

[Cardiopulmonary resuscitation of pregnant patients in the rescue service].
Cardiopulmonary resuscitation of a pregnant patient is a rarity in prehospital emergency medicine and an extraordinary challenge for the emergency team. Besides modifications to emergency medical procedures due to physiological changes during pregnancy, specific reversible causes must be considered and psychosocial difficulties must be managed. This article aims to present a standard operating procedure for this special situation. In these circumstances the basics of crew resource management (CRM) are of special interest for the emergency team and are therefore mentioned in this article.
