Five-year survival in patients with endometrioid carcinoma of the ovary versus those with serous carcinoma.
Ovarian carcinoma is the most deadly of gynecologic malignancies. Controversy exists as to whether different histologic types have a different prognosis. The goal of this study was to determine whether patients with endometrioid carcinoma of the ovary have a different prognosis than patients with serous carcinoma. ⋯ When patients with endometrioid and serous tumours of the ovary are matched for age, grade, stage and level of cytoreduction, there is no difference in either 5-year survival or length of survival.

Review Case ReportsVenous port systems in the field of gynaecological oncology.
In the field of gynaecological oncology, which is characterised by the frequent application of cytotoxic drugs strongly necrotising to tissue, fully implantable venous port systems are of particular relevance. Frequent and serious complications such as infection, thrombosis, obstruction, leakage, or paravasation detract considerably, however, from the advantages otherwise deriving from a safe and reliable means of accessing a patient's venous system. ⋯ In many cases, it will be possible after efficient diagnosis to solve the complication and keep the port functioning. On the basis of 8 actual cases typical and frequent complications observed in connection with port systems are described, together with preventive measures, diagnosis and therapy.

A symptomatic pelvic-abdominal mass in a 29 year old female was found to be bilateral ovarian serous cystadenomata of borderline malignancy. In addition, a thickened region of the omentum was removed and proved to be endometriosis. ⋯ The possible origins of omental endometriosis include metastasis and metaplasia. Omental endometriosis is rare and should be included in the differential diagnosis of omental tumors.
