The aneurysmal bone cyst (ABC) is a fast-growing tumor of undefined neoplastic nature. It is occasionally an aggressive benign lesion whose treatment of choice is a complete resection, even though the risk of profuse transoperative bleeding exists. We present a female patient with thoracic spine deformity, with progressive paresthesias and muscle weakness of lower extremities that evolved to paralysis of both lower extremities and sphincter incontinence. ⋯ This lesion is mainly located in the long bones and less frequently of the spine, where instability and medullary compression may occur. It is possible to confuse this neoplasia with other lesions. Hence, definite diagnosis with biopsy is necessary for determining an adequate therapeutic plan to eradicate recurrence risk or associated neurologic sequelae, as well as to gain proper stability at the involved vertebral segments.

The objective of this work was to determine the main risk factors that influence prognosis, results, morbidity and mortality rates and causes in patients with acute coronary syndrome requiring surgical myocardial revascularization. ⋯ With a major number of risk factors and the high-risk associated with surgery, in our center surgical treatment for acute coronary syndromes showed favorable results.

Practice Guideline
[Practice guidelines for cancer pain management. Task Force for Cancer Pain Management].
Cancer pain is a frequent medical problem in our society. This syndrome affects from 80 to 90% of cancer patients and can be solved with relatively simple measures in 90% of the cases. ⋯ These guidelines were generated by a task force of 31 physicians who were leaders in this field and based on 599 papers selected by a previous literature search. This group evaluated the results of this search in three work sessions, during which a level of evidence was assigned to each recommendation.

Comparative Study Clinical Trial
[Mean airway pressure during pressure-controlled ventilation with static vs. dynamic positive end-expiratory pressure].
Positive end-expiratory pressure increases mean airway pressure (Paw) in patients with mechanical ventilation. We undertook this study to compare mean airway pressure (Paw) generated with static PEEP (sPEEP) vs. dynamic PEEP (dPEEP) at the same level of total PEEP (tPEEP) in the same patient with pressure-controlled mechanical ventilation (PC). ⋯ During pressure control ventilation, mean airway pressure is affected by the level of total PEEP and its composition. Paw is higher when dynamic PEEP participates in the composition of total PEEP.

Folklore and "uses and customs" in countries such as Mexico, under certain circumstances, have direct influences on risks for traumatic injuries. Such is the case of gunpowder explosive objects used during celebration holidays. We present a 14-year-old male who suffered a pulmonary contusion as a consequence of an explosion of "huevo de codorniz." A pleurostomy tube was required to resolve symptomatic hemothorax. The patient was discharged 5 days after admission.
