Anterior cruciate ligament injuries treated with quadriceps tendon autograft versus hamstring autograft: A randomized controlled trial.
One of the most common grafts used to repair anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) rupture is the hamstring tendon (HT) autograft. However, another proposed option to repair the ACL is the quadriceps tendon (QT) autograft. This study aimed to compare the pain and clinical results between patients with ACL injury treated with QT autograft and with HT autograft. ⋯ The patients treated with QT autograft had clinical results and post-operative pain similar to those of patients treated with HT autograft for ACL reconstruction.

Sonotherapy in the reduction of anxiety and postoperative pain in patients with regional anesthesia as a sole technique: randomized, controlled clinical trial.
To determine if sonotherapy reduces the anxiety level and postoperative pain in adults undergoing outpatient orthopedic surgery under regional anesthesia. ⋯ In adult patients undergoing outpatient orthopaedic surgery under regional anaesthesia, sound therapy is a novel strategy that significantly reduces systolic blood pressure, considered as an indicator of decreased anxiety. However, in our study, no difference could be demonstrated in terms of pain control or the need for additional sedation or analgesia.

⋯ Fast-track program in children with non-complicated appendicitis is safe and effective in pediatric university hospital; there was cost-minimization without carelessness of safety. This program support clinical and economic benefits, a total saving of 403,860 Mexican pesos for the 30 patients in the fast-track group.

[A randomized controlled trial of preoperative oral immunonutrition in patients undergoing surgery for colorectal cancer: hospital stay and health care costs].
The use of enteral formulas with immunonutrients in patients with gastrointestinal malignancies susceptible to surgery can reduce postoperative morbidity, at the expense of reduced infectious complications, with the consequent reduction in hospital stay and health care costs. ⋯ NOT IN patients suffered infectious complications more frequently than YES IN, with significant results in the subgroup of patients with rectal cancer. The total hospital stay and costs were slightly higher in the group not supplemented, doubling in each category significantly (YES IN, NOT IN, colon and rectal cancer), when infectious complications were observed.
