ReviewCOVID-19 patients in the operating room: a concise review of existing literature.
A novel Coronavirus was identified in late 2019 as the cause of COVID-19 disease which is highly contagious. SARS-CoV-2 is a single-stranded RNA, enveloped virus from the beta Coronavirus family. ⋯ This review article was designed to synthesize the existing evidence and experience related to intraoperative management of COVID-19. This review provides a summary of clinical guidance and addresses six domains: principles of intraoperative monitoring, airway management and related difficulties, ventilation, type of anesthesia, medications and side effects, and intraoperative fluid management.

Performance of the laryngeal tube for airway management during cardiopulmonary resuscitation: a systematic review and meta-analysis.
Sudden cardiac arrest is one of the leading causes of death in Europe and the whole world. Effective chest compressions and advanced airway management have been shown to improve survival rates. Supraglottic airway devices such as the laryngeal tube (LT) are a well-known strategy for patients with cardiac arrest during both basic (BLS) and advanced life support (ALS). This systematic literature review aimed to summarize current data for using the LT when performing BLS and ALS. ⋯ Especially as initial device of airway management (for inexperienced staff), the use of a LT is easy and results in a fast insertion. The advantages of the LT as compared to bag mask ventilation and endotracheal intubation are inhomogeneous in recent literature.

Multicenter Study Observational StudyRisk factors for difficult Laryngeal Mask Airway LMA-Supreme™ (LMAS) placement in adults: a multicentric prospective observational study in an Italian population.
Supraglottic airway devices (SADs) are precious tools for airway management in both routine and rescue situations; few studies have analyzed the risk factors for their difficult insertion. ⋯ The alignment of the laryngeal and pharyngeal axes seems to facilitate the procedure, together with NMBA administration; on the contrary, Mallampati grade III-IV are associated with difficult LMAS placement.

Randomized Controlled TrialSuperficial cervical plexus block alone or combined with interscalene brachial plexus block in surgery for clavicle fractures: a randomized clinical trial.
The regional anesthesia technique which is suitable for fracture clavicle is a matter of debate. This study aimed to compare the use of superficial cervical plexus alone or in combination with interscalene block in patients undergoing internal fixation of fractured clavicle. ⋯ In patients undergoing internal fixation of clavicular fracture, the perioperative analgesic effect of SCP alone is equally effective to its use in combination with ISB.

Observational StudyRisk factors for post-operative eye pain in patients with non-painful eye disease undergoing pars plana vitrectomy: the VItrectomy Pain (VIP) study.
Pars plana vitrectomy (PPV), a surgical procedure used to treat different ophthalmic pathologies, could be associated with moderate to severe eye pain. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the incidence of postoperative eye pain and its risk factors following PPV in a selected population of patients with non-painful eye disease, receiving regional anesthesia and moderate sedation with benzodiazepines, without use of narcotics. ⋯ A protocol for pain control after PPV should be considered, especially in younger, non-Caucasian people, and patients with high ASA PS grade. Moreover, attention must be paid when additional surgical procedures are requested, restricting them to selected patients, and using the appropriate agent for intraocular tamponade.
