Clinical evaluation and follow-up outcome of presurgical plan by Dextroscope: a prospective controlled study in patients with skull base tumors.
Patient-specific approach design, comprehensive evaluation on perioperative data, and follow-up of postoperative life quality (KPS) were carried out to evaluate the application of VR technology of Dextroscope in procedures of patients with skull base tumors. ⋯ The preoperative plans with VR technology in patients with skull base tumor or CSF leakage operations can help certain the diagnosis, individually locate the position of skull base lesions, and design patient-specific approach, which also facilitate to shorten operation duration and the postoperative LOS, reduce total blood loss and injury of vessels in operation, and improve the postoperative KPS.

Evaluation of the skin flora after chlorhexidine and povidone-iodine preparation in neurosurgical practice.
Currently, there are various antiseptics used for cleaning the skin before surgery, but there is no standard procedure in practice. Chlorhexidine and povidone-iodine are the most preferred compounds among antiseptics. Both are proved to be safe and effective for skin disinfection. In this study, our aim was to investigate the combined effects of chlorhexidine and povidone-iodine on the skin's flora before neurosurgical intervention, consecutively. ⋯ Three minutes' cleaning of the incision area with chlorhexidine, followed by 30-second cleaning with povidone-iodine, could be a sufficient disinfection procedure for preoperative preparation of the skin in patients undergoing a neurosurgical procedure.

A prospective randomized trial comparing the technique of spinal and general anesthesia for lumbar disk surgery: a study of 100 cases.
General anesthesia and regional anesthesia have both been shown to be suitable techniques for patients undergoing lower thoracic and lumbar spine surgery; however, GA is the most frequently used method. The purpose of this study was to conduct an acceptable RCT to compare the intraoperative parameters and postoperative outcome after SA and GA in patients undergoing elective lumbar disk surgery. ⋯ Contrary to previous studies, the findings of the present study revealed that SA has no advantages over GA. Moreover, it was showed that GA can reduce the related risks and complications in several aspects.

Slope of the intracranial pressure waveform after traumatic brain injury.
The measurement and treatment of ICP within the management of TBI generally focuses on keeping the mean ICP to less than 20 mm Hg. More sophisticated analysis of the intracranial pressure waveform has yielded important relationships, but those methods have not gained widespread use. Prior analysis of the slope of the ICP waveform during inspiration and expiration in patients with hydrocephalus has provided valuable information that has never been applied to patients with TBI. This study used digital methods to examine ICP and the slope of the ICP waveform in relation to the respiratory cycle in subjects with TBI. ⋯ Greater systolic ICP waveform slope during inspiration has not been described previously after TBI and is consistent with prior observations in subjects with hydrocephalus. The strong correlation between ICP slope and simultaneous mean ICP suggests that increasing ICP slope might indicate loss of intracranial compliance after TBI.

Image-guided endoscopic evacuation of spontaneous intracerebral hemorrhage.
Spontaneous ICH is a devastating disease with high morbidity and mortality. Intracerebral hemorrhage lacks an effective medical or surgical treatment despite the acknowledged pathophysiologic benefits of achieved hemostasis and clot removal. Image-guided stereotactic endoscopic hematoma evacuation is a promising minimally invasive approach designed to limit operative injury and maximize hematoma removal. ⋯ Image-guided stereotactic endoscopic hematoma removal is a promising minimally invasive technique that is effective in immediate hematoma evacuation. This technique deserves further investigation to determine its role in ICH management.
