Clinicopathological, radiological and genetic analyses of cerebellar gangliogliomas with long-term survival.
Cerebellar gangliogliomas show different image findings and clinical behaviors from the supratentorial; however, their molecular basis and optimal managements remain to be elucidated. We report 3 children with cerebellar ganglioglioma and long-term survival, focusing on clinicopathological and radiological findings and genetic analyses. ⋯ Our study showed that all 3 children achieved long-term survival with residual tumors. These tumors might indicate a benign prognosis of pediatric cerebellar gangliogliomas, regardless of the infiltrating manifestation and the presence of BRAF mutation.

Intracranial aneurysms associated with moyamoya disease in children: clinical features and long-term surgical outcome.
Moyamoya disease (MMD) in children was rarely associated with intracranial aneurysms. The purpose of this study was to report the clinical characteristics and long-term surgical outcomes of pediatric intracranial aneurysms accompanied with MMD. ⋯ The long-term survey showed EDAS surgery could effectively increase the cerebral blood flow and maintain good outcomes in children, which may further result in the disappearance of the intracranial aneurysms and decrease the incidence of recurrent hemorrhage.

Extended transsphenoidal endoscopic endonasal surgery of suprasellar craniopharyngiomas.
The endoscopic extended transsphenoidal approach for suprasellar craniopharyngiomas may be a really alternative to the transcranial approach in many cases. The authors present their experience with this technique in 136 patients with craniopharyngiomas. ⋯ Resection of suprasellar craniopharyngiomas using the extended endoscopic approach is a more effective and less traumatic technology, able to provide resection of the tumor along with high quality of life after surgery, and relatively rare postoperative complications and mortality.

Inflammasome proteins in cerebrospinal fluid of patients with subarachnoid hemorrhage are biomarkers of early brain injury and functional outcome.
Aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) remains a devastating disease with significant morbidity and mortality. To date, clinical variables are still used to evaluate injury severity and prognosis. This study was designed to investigate the role of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) inflammasome proteins as laboratory-based biomarkers of brain injury severity and outcome in SAH patients. ⋯ Inflammasome proteins are potential biomarkers to assess early brain injury and to predict functional outcome after SAH.

Analysis of hemorrhage volumes after angiogram-negative subarachnoid hemorrhage.
Antiplatelet medication use is associated with worsened outcome after angiogram-negative subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH). It has been hypothesized that these worsened outcomes may be the result of an association between antiplatelet medication use and increased hemorrhage volumes after angiogram-negative SAH. To test this hypothesis, we performed volumetric analysis of computed tomography (CT)-defined hemorrhage after angiogram-negative SAH. ⋯ Antiplatelet medication use is associated with increased SAH volumes in patients with angiogram-negative SAH. Increased hemorrhage volumes may contribute to poor outcomes in this patient population. Prospective studies are warranted to confirm this association.
