The aim of this study was to determine the effectiveness of treating vertebral fusiform aneurysms (VFAs) only with stents. Using computational fluid dynamics, we evaluated the hemodynamic patterns of VFAs after stent-only treatment (SOT) and monitored hemodynamic changes in the side branches. ⋯ We found a significant increase in RRT of successful reconstruction of aneurysms. There may be less effect on the flow in branches arising from VFAs after SOT, whether the aneurysms showed complete occlusion or not.

The alar ligaments are among the primary ligamentous structures contributing to craniovertebral stability. The purpose of this study is to clarify the morphology of the alar ligament using fresh cadaveric specimens. ⋯ The current cadaveric evaluation offers an interesting window into better understanding the anatomy of the alar ligaments.

Various authors have described the morphology of the alar ligaments; however, there are no reports of a cadaveric study focusing on their attachments onto the dens. The purpose of this study was to use fresh cadaveric specimens to describe in detail different attachment patterns of the alar ligaments onto the dens. ⋯ Wide posterolateral anchoring to the dens coupled with the nearly horizontal trajectory explains the biomechanical advantage of the alar ligaments in undertaking a stabilizing function in limiting head rotation that would otherwise be ineffective in the case of weaker attachments or a more vertical orientation.

Gamma Knife radiosurgery (GKS) for the treatment of vestibular schwannoma (VS) introduces risks to the facial nerve and auditory perception and may involve post-treatment complications such as pseudoprogression, hydrocephalus, and other cranial neuropathies. This study of patients with VS who underwent GKS investigated radiosurgical results, focusing on post-treatment complications and identifying the factors that predict such complications. ⋯ Further prospective studies should be designed to provide further insight into the exact relationship between the predictive factors we investigated and post-treatment complications.
