Memory complaints are common in patients after brain tumor, but is difficult to map memory functions during awake surgery, to preserve them. Thus we analyzed one of the largest data sets on clinical, surgical, and anatomical correlates of memory in patients with brain tumor to date, providing anatomical hotspots for short and long-term memory functions. ⋯ Verbal memory tasks revealed a set of specific anatomical hotspots that might be considered "eloquent" for verbal memory functions, unlike visuospatial tasks, suggesting that commonly used spatial memory tasks might not be optimal to localize the damage, despite an otherwise good sensitivity to cognitive damage.

Venous stenting has become a promising treatment for venous sinus stenosis. However, it is not without its own set of risks. ⋯ This case indicates that physicians may need to be aware of this rare complication, which can be managed without resumption of pseudotumor cerebri symptoms.

Over the past decade, the surgical treatment of adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS) has established new techniques to reduce curve severity and shifted to include the regular use of pedicle screws. Few studies have focused on this evolving trend in AIS correction surgery. In this study, we investigated how the operative approach, instrumentation, and surgical techniques have changed over the past 15 years and to quantify the related improvements in AIS surgical treatment. ⋯ Consistent improvement of major curve correction has been achieved by the spine community over 15 years. After stabilized coronal correction and fewer fusion levels, the next steps in this evolution are the restoration of sagittal profiles, especially the hypokyphosis seen in patients with Lenke 1, the posterior minimally invasive approach, and a fast-track return to activity.

Patients with large and giant intracranial aneurysms (IAs) can experience neurological deterioration within 6 months after successful flow diverter (FD) placement. The purpose of the present study was to assess whether the occurrence of neurological deterioration can be linked to IA expansion within 6 months after FD treatment. ⋯ The volume of large and giant IAs can increase in the first 6 months after FD treatment. More patients presenting with mass effect-related symptoms showed IA expansion than patients with ischemia-related symptoms.

Bloodless dry fields are indispensable for successful and safe neurosurgical operations using microscopes. Appropriate irrigation and suction systems are needed to obtain clear surgical fields. We invented a novel malleable continuous suction tube to address this need. ⋯ The newly developed malleable suction tube is effective for microsurgery.
