To determine the stability of fusion constructs with unilateral pedicle screw (UPS) or bilateral pedicle screw (BPS) fixation with and without an interbody implant using the lateral lumbar interbody (LLIF) approach. ⋯ These biomechanical results suggest that fixation in the lumbar spine with an interbody support using an LLIF approach with UPS is a promising alternative to BPS. Although BPS provides greater immediate stability compared with UPS, in the presence of a lateral interbody implant, UPS and BPS provide equivalent stability. In addition, LLIF does not appear to contribute significantly to immediate stability when BPS is used.

Case of Primary Central Nervous System Lymphoma Arising at Site of Remote Herpes Encephalitis.
Primary central nervous system lymphoma (PCNSL) is a rare malignancy that usually arises in the context of severe immunosuppression but has incompletely understood etiology, limiting effective treatments. ⋯ We discuss this case in the context of our current understandings of the pathogenesis of HSV encephalitis and PCNSL and postulate mechanisms through which the 2 could be associated.

The objective of this study was to analyze patients' perceptions of their headaches both before and after Pipeline flow diversion treatment of their unruptured intracranial aneurysms, with the goal of identifying prognostic factors associated with headache patterns to improve predictions of overall outcomes. ⋯ An overall improvement of headaches in patients with UIAs who underwent treatment with the PED was observed, particularly in patients harboring large aneurysms and who had presented with daily headaches.

Surgical Resection of Pineal Epidermoid Cyst Contributed to Relieving Schizophrenia Symptoms.
The pineal gland has been demonstrated to be involved in the development of mood and psychotic disorders. However, few studies have looked at the relationship between pineal region tumors and psychiatric disorders. Intracranial epidermoid cysts usually arise in the cerebellopontine angle area and are extremely rare in the pineal region. The case of pineal epidermoid cyst presenting as schizophrenia has never been reported before. ⋯ This case highlights the importance of including mass lesions of the pineal region in the differential diagnosis of psychotic disorders. It also provides further support that the pineal region may play a role in the pathophysiology of psychiatric diseases, although more studies will be needed to elucidate this interesting connection.

To investigate clinical efficacy of and optimal therapeutic strategy for ventricular intracranial pressure monitoring (V-ICPM) in patients with traumatic bifrontal contusions (TBCs). ⋯ Patients with TBCs should be strictly, closely, and dynamically observed by neurosurgery intensive care unit physicians and nurses. Patients should undergo ventricular intracranial pressure probe implantation in a timely manner. V-ICPM can help optimize treatment. Although V-ICPM did not significantly improve the prognosis of patients, it had many other advantages. V-ICPM warrants further clinical research and may be beneficial for patients with TBCs.
