To compare the clinical and radiologic outcomes of patients with different 3-dimensional (3D) hemivertebra morphologies undergoing posterior-only hemivertebra resection and fusion. ⋯ For CS patients with unison hemivertebra or discordant hemivertebra, satisfactory radiologic results were obtained by posterior-only hemivertebra resection and fusion. In terms of surgery, the radiologic outcomes of discordant hemivertebra patients were similar to those of unison hemivertebra patients, but discordant hemivertebrae could easily result in longer operation time and more intraoperative blood loss.

The risk factors for high-grade meningioma in brain and spine: A systematic review and meta-analysis.
Histologic grade has important implications for the management in meningioma. It is important to understand the risk of high-grade meningioma (grades II and III). In this article, we systematically reviewed the histologic grade of meningioma depending on the location and sex and its relationship with recurrence. ⋯ This meta-analysis found that intracranial, nonskull base, and male sex are risk factors for high-grade meningioma, and high-grade meningioma had a much higher recurrence rate as compared with grade I meningioma.

Neuro-oncology is a branch of medicine focused on the diagnosis and treatment of primary and secondary tumors of the nervous system as well as the neurologic complications of cancer and cancer treatments. In practice, neuro-oncologists require an intimate knowledge of the neurologic presentation and management of central nervous system tumors, including gliomas, meningiomas, primary central nervous system lymphoma, metastases to the nervous system, and others. ⋯ The prognosis for many central nervous system tumors, including gliomas and brain metastases, is often poor despite the advent of novel medical therapies. Efforts to develop more effective therapies are ongoing, and patient enrollment in clinical trials assessing the efficacy of new treatments is crucial to improve outcomes.

Metric-based surgical training can be used to quantify the level and progression of neurosurgical performance to optimize and monitor training progress. Here we applied innovative metrics to a physical neurosurgery trainer to explore whether these metrics differentiate between different levels of experience across different tasks. ⋯ It is possible to differentiate between the skill levels of novices and experts according to parameters derived from the PsT1 platform, paving the way for the quantitative assessment of training progress using this system. During the current coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic, neurosurgical simulators that gather surgical performance metrics offer a solution to the educational needs of residents.

Neurosurgery is considered to have one of the greatest risks of medical malpractice claims. However, medicolegal issues in neurosurgery are often disregarded and underrated worldwide. Medical errors in the neurosurgical field can be attributed to multiple factors, including highly morbid pathologies, the technical difficulty of neurosurgical procedures, and the involvement and interaction of a multidisciplinary team in the care of neurosurgical patients. ⋯ Often, governments use additional tactics to decrease the burden on compensators and extrajudicial institutions and to decrease the court's flow of irrational litigation. Continuous amendments to health care acts and newer reforms to address these issues have materialized worldwide. In the present narrative review, we have reviewed the global perspectives of medicolegal issues, with a focus on neurosurgical discipline.
