Coronavirus Disease-2019 (COVID-19) and Pituitary Apoplexy: A Single-Center Case Series and Review of the Literature.
Pituitary apoplexy (PA) is a rare, but life-threatening, condition characterized by pituitary infarction and hemorrhage, most often in the setting of a preexisting adenoma. The risk factors and mechanisms associated with PA are poorly understood. Although neurovascular manifestations of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) infection have been documented, its association with PA has not yet been determined. ⋯ With the addition of our series to the literature, 10 cases of PA in the setting of COVID-19 infection have been confirmed. The present series was limited in its ability to draw conclusions about the relationship between these 2 entities. However, COVID-19 infection might represent a risk factor for the development of PA. Further studies are required.

Management of acute hemorrhage due to cerebral AVM during pregnancy ---- case series and literature review.
Acute hemorrhage caused by cerebral arteriovenous malformation (cAVM) during pregnancy is uncommon but life-threatening for both mother and fetus and presents a great challenge to clinical management. However, there is still no consensus on the treatment strategy and the treatment timing of acute hemorrhage from cAVM during pregnancy. The aim of this study was to amalgamate reported case series and our cases regarding the clinical management of pregnant patients under this special condition. ⋯ A high rebleed rate and high mortality from rebleeding indicate that the intervention of ruptured cAVM should not be delayed. Intervention of ruptured cAVM within 2 weeks after initial hemorrhage is advisable in patients at gestational age <34 weeks, whereas termination of pregnancy as soon as possible followed by timely intervention of ruptured cAVM is practicable in patients at gestational age ≥34 weeks.

To compare clinical efficacy and safety of endoscopic lumbar interbody fusion (Endo-LIF) and minimally invasive transforaminal lumbar interbody fusion (MIS-TLIF) in treatment of lumbar degenerative diseases. ⋯ Based on the evidence provided by this study, there is no significant difference in clinical efficacy and safety between Endo-LIF and MIS-TLIF in the treatment of lumbar degenerative diseases. Although Endo-LIF has a longer operative time, it has the advantages of less tissue trauma and rapid recovery after operation.

In the early twentieth century, early neurosurgical pioneers marked their claims in the specialty during the combined threats of the Spanish influenza and World War I. Their stories, intimately connected, demonstrate personal and professional losses in the backdrop of overarching perseverance to achieve that which allowed neurosurgery to evolve into modernity. Today, as global order adapts to the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus (SARS-COVID-19) pandemic, their stories provide an opportunity for reflection as we carve our way forward as a specialty.

Static vs. Expandable PEEK Interbody Cages: A Comparison of One-Year Clinical and Radiographic Outcomes for One-Level Transforaminal Lumbar Interbody Fusion.
To examine the effect of static versus expandable polyether ether ketone (PEEK) cages on both clinical and radiographic outcomes. ⋯ Transforaminal lumbar interbody fusion with an expandable PEEK cage is an independent predictor of improved ODI scores at 1 year. Our study showed no significant differences in subsidence rates or changes in sagittal spinal alignment between static and expandable PEEK cages.
