The literature includes many studies examining the genetic abnormalities that influence pituitary adenomas (PAs). We aimed to state the collective knowledge on the genetic underpinnings of PAs by organizing, summarizing, and consolidating the literature to serve as a comprehensive review for scientists and clinicians of the most up-to-date information underlying the genetic landscape of PAs. ⋯ This review serves to consolidate and summarize the literature discussing the genetic motifs of PAs to help physicians and scientists deliver patient-centered therapies.

Chronic back pain (CBP) is a condition that places a considerable burden on society, with several million people affected in the United States alone. Treatment options to address this problem and relieve CBP are constantly evolving, and one of the most promising treatment modalities for CBP that is refractory to conservative treatment options is endoscopic rhizotomy (ER). ⋯ ER is an effective treatment for refractory CBP with notable advantages. As the technology and popularity of this procedure progress, improvements in the cost, training, and intraoperative time may make it a favorable alternative to the current standard of care.

To obtain the quantitative measurements of the muscle morphology of cervical extensors in patients with multilevel cervical spondylotic myelopathy, and determine whether the morphological parameter of each muscle correlates with the patients' demographic features, symptoms, and cervical sagittal balance. ⋯ In patients with multilevel CSM, age and sex were demographic factors that were highly correlated with muscle morphology changes. Extensor muscles, especially DEM, play important roles in maintaining cervical sagittal balance and are associated with the severity of neck symptoms.

Conventional triggered electromyography (EMG) in percutaneous pedicle screw (PPS) systems may be unreliable due to the interaction between the insertion apparatus and patient's soft tissue. Our aim was 1) to describe a modified technique of triggered EMG monitoring using insulated Kirschner wire (K-wires), 2) to compare EMG potentials with conventional techniques, and 3) to demonstrate the relationship between patient body mass index (BMI) and triggered EMG potentials. ⋯ We describe a cost-effective, efficient, and reliable technique for triggered EMG during PPS placement which may help ensure accurate screw placement and minimize potentially devastating complications.

Hydroflex: Use of patient reported outcomes in a clinical setting among patients with hydrocephalus.
A patient-reported outcome (PRO) measure is defined as "any report of the status of a patient's health condition that comes directly from the patient without interpretation of the patient's response by a clinician or anyone else". PRO data are increasingly being used in health care to facilitate monitoring of symptoms, facilitate communication between patients and clinicians, facilitate early identification of problems, and reduce unnecessary outpatient appointments for stable patients. ⋯ It is our belief that Hydroflex provides more continuity in the treatment of patients with hydrocephalus. Also, it provides for a more standardized follow-up scheme, and we postulate this will lead to improved patient satisfaction and involvement and fewer outpatient appointments. Also, Hydroflex is useful for quality control and prospective research.
