In this study, we aimed to analyze the risk factors of bone cement leakage in percutaneous kyphoplasty (PKP) treatment of osteoporotic vertebral compression fractures (OVCFs), and provide suggestions for reducing bone cement leakage. ⋯ Impairment of BMD value, defects of cortical bone, and inappropriate stage of bone cement injection will increase the risk of bone cement leakage in PKP treatment and limit PKP effects.

A 65-year-old woman with a known right-sided, dural-based lesion and metastatic pancreatic neuroendocrine tumor presented with multiple days of progressive lethargy and left-sided weakness culminating with obtundation and dilated pupils. Computed tomography demonstrated an acute right convexity subdural hematoma and a frontotemporal intraparenchymal hemorrhage with 1.3 cm of midline shift, uncal herniation, and an increase in size of now a hemorrhagic dural-based lesion. She underwent emergency hemicraniectomy for evacuation of subdural hematoma and resection of hemorrhagic meningioma with excellent postoperative result including improvement in midline shift and gross total resection of lesion. ⋯ She underwent adjuvant stereotactic radiosurgery and cranioplasty and made a full neurologic recovery. Identification of hemorrhagic meningioma as the underlying pathology causing multicompartmental hemorrhage is crucial. We recommend single-stage decompression with extraaxial clot evacuation and resection of the meningioma when feasible.

Carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) is the most common entrapment neuropathy in the world. Surgical treatment can be performed in an open or endoscopic fashion. To date, similar rates of complications for both approaches have been described. We sought to compare the results of endoscopic carpal tunnel release (ECTR) with open carpal tunnel release (OCTR) in patients with CTS. ⋯ In the largest study to date on the surgical management of CTR, OCTR was seen to be associated with an increased odds of readmission, infection, and wound complications, but reduced costs for the procedure alone.

Although the short- to medium-term efficacy of Gamma Knife therapy for drug-resistant essential trigeminal neuralgia has been reported, long-term evaluations are limited. We evaluated patient data obtained at least 10 years post-treatment and examined the significance of this treatment using new end points. ⋯ Gamma Knife radiosurgery for essential trigeminal neuralgia showed good therapeutic effects during long-term follow-up. Serious complications of significant concern in the short- to mid-term follow-up, resolved spontaneously. Therefore, the indications for treatment should be expanded to include patients who strongly desire Gamma Knife therapy.

Understanding the intersectional relationship of pain stigma, weight bias internalization, and clinical indicators in a rural population with back pain: a survey-based study.
Stigma is understood to be intersectional, meaning multiple characteristics can be stigmatizing, and they may be both overlapping and coconstitutive. Chronic pain and overweight are common complaints in the spinal surgery clinic. Since being overweight may relate to back pain in a complex fashion, we sought to understand if there is a moderating effect between weight bias and pain stigma. ⋯ Given the relationship between weight stigma and pain, the intersection of weight and pain stigma is important because it indicates the vulnerability of patients with higher BMI to other forms of stigma, such as stigma for their pain complaints. Clinicians should be mindful of expressing pain stigma more significantly amongst patients with higher BMI.
