To understand the factors that affect decision-making when choosing a specific subspecialty while exploring gender and geographic variables. ⋯ Stereotactic and functional neurosurgery and peripheral nerve surgery are the emerging subspecialties and hence their exposure and access are highly limited to the developed world whereas spine and neurosurgical oncology branches had a homogenous geographic presence. Pediatric neurosurgery had the most female representation, thereby necessitating the need to uplift women in other subspecialties.

Feasibility of Intra-operative VEP Monitoring by cortical strip electrodes in patients during brain surgery: a preliminary study.
The role of visual evoked potentials (VEPs) monitoring during neurosurgical procedure in patient remains unclear. The purpose of our study was to determine the feasibility of intraoperative VEP recording using a strip cortical electrode during surgical resection of intracranial lesions. ⋯ We have reported for the first time in the literature that VEP monitoring during a neurosurgical procedure is feasible via a cortical strip located on the occipital surface. The technique demonstrated greater stability and a larger amplitude compared with recordings with scalp electrodes, facilitating identification of any changes. Studies with more patients are needed to assess the clinical reliability of the technique.

The predictors of futile recanalization in patients with intracranial atherosclerosis (ICAS)-related stroke are not understood. This study aimed to identify the predictors of futile recanalization after endovascular treatment (EVT) in patients who experience an acute stroke caused by ICAS-related occlusion. ⋯ Older age, higher NIHSS score on admission, and poor collaterals are predictors of futile recanalization in patients with ICAS-related stroke.

Applicants rely heavily on virtual information in the form of neurosurgery residency websites (NRWs) to better understand a program's culture, faculty, and opportunities. There is a paucity of information regarding the value of NRW on applicant decision making. The advent of the supplemental ERAS application and continuation of virtual interviews may increase the propensity of which applicants use NRW. The objective of our study was to distribute a survey to further understand applicants' perceptions and opinions of NRW, as well as provide future direction for NRW optimization. ⋯ Our data suggest NRWs play a vital role in resident recruitment and decision making. Residency programs will benefit from this data and may use it to restructure their virtual recruitment tools and discover innovative virtual recruitment strategies. Our team elucidated the most important variables found on NRWs and proposed future directions for their improvement and the virtual application and recruitment process.

This study aimed to evaluate the clinical efficacy and safety of S2-alar-iliac (S2AI) and iliac screw (IS) techniques in treating lumbosacral spondylodiscitis. ⋯ S2AI, as well as IS techniques, can achieve promising results for reconstructing lumbosacral stability in spondylodiscitis. In addition, the S2AI technique can also reduce surgical trauma and operation time.
