Stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS) presents as a good treatment option for smaller, deep-seated brain metastases (BMs). This study aims to determine predictors of SRS failure for patients with non-small cell lung cancer BMs. ⋯ Contrast-homogeneous metastases and lesions <1.06 cm3 are associated with better rates of PFS. Karnofsky Performance Scale and graded prognostic assessment were associated with more favorable survival rates after 10 years. Volume <1.06 cm3 was the only significant predictor of survival in the multivariable analysis.

Meningiomas are rarely revealed by an intracranial hemorrhage (ICH). Rebleeding occurrence rate and time of onset are unknown. Here, we performed a systematic review of the literature of meningiomas revealed by ICH. ⋯ ICH is a rare presentation of meningiomas. Hindbrain and ventricular tumor location and IPH are associated with poor outcomes. Rebleeding rate is high and premature. It occurs earlier if the first bleeding was SAH or IVH and for hindbrain location.

With the recent changes to the U.S. Medical Licensing Examination grading system, an understanding of the factors that influence the neurological surgery residency match process is crucial for residency directors. The aim of the present retrospective study was to explore the associations of medical school location, ranking, private school status, size, and presence of an American Association of Neurological Surgeons (AANS) chapter or neurological surgery interest group (NSIG) with the neurosurgery match outcomes. ⋯ Medical students from the top 25 medical schools, private medical schools, medical schools with an AANS chapter, and medical schools with an NSIG were more likely to match into a prestigious residency program. These findings suggest that underlying biases might be present for program directors to consider in the resident selection process.

At craniotomy, the dura shrinks due to the drying effect of illumination and air exposure, rendering its primary closure difficult. When the opening is narrow, it can be patched with autologous grafts. However, tissue harvesting and meticulous suturing take time. As the cost-effectiveness of using dural substitutes is poor, we developed a new technique that involves dural scratching for the primary closure of dural openings. ⋯ Dural scratching is simple, safe, requires no special instrumentation, facilitates primary closure of the shrunken dura by stretching, and reduces the need for patch grafting.

There is a large disparity between the quality of neurosurgical research in developed and developing nations, including the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). Bibliometric analysis is an appropriate method for evaluating the quality of research in a geographic region. We analyzed the neurosurgery reports published by the ASEAN countries to highlight regional productivity in neurosurgery research. ⋯ By analyzing the neurosurgery publications from ASEAN countries over the previous decade, we highlight the status of neurosurgical research in these countries.
