Early evidence suggests that middle meningeal artery (MMA) embolization is an efficacious minimally invasive neuroendovascular technique for the management of chronic subdural hematoma (cSDH). Particle and liquid embolic materials are commonly used to embolize the MMA; however, studies comparing the safety and outcomes between these 2 materials are limited. ⋯ Our series shows that liquid embolic and particle embolization are equally safe and effective among patients undergoing MMA embolization for management of cSDH.

'SimSpine': A cost-effective spinal endoscopy training prototype for neurosurgical residents skills training.
To compare the SimSpine (indigenously developed, low-cost model) and EasyGO! (Karl Storz, Tuttlingen, Germany) systems for simulation of endoscopic discectomy. ⋯ SimSpine is a cost-effective viable alternative to EasyGO for endoscopic lumbar discectomy simulation-based training.

We aimed to describe our institutional case series of 9 surgically treated uterine brain metastases and perform a survival analysis through a systematic review and a pooled individual patient data study. ⋯ Brain metastases of cancer arising in the uterus appear to result most often in multiple lesions with dismal prognosis. The seemingly most efficacious treatment modality is surgery and radiotherapy. However, this treatment is often not an option when more than 1 or 2 brain lesions are present.

Historically, there have been few quantitative methods for effectively evaluating outcomes after surgery for craniosynostosis. In this prospective study, we assessed a novel approach for detecting possible postsurgery brain injury in patients with craniosynostosis. ⋯ These represent the first results showing significantly increased plasma levels of brain-injury biomarkers after surgery for craniosynostosis. Furthermore, we found that more extensive cranial vault procedures resulted in higher levels of these biomarkers relative to less extensive procedures.

Disturbances in serum sodium concentration (dysnatremia) are common following aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage (aSAH), but its direct impact on outcomes is not well understood. This study aimed to examine the association between dysnatremia following aSAH and patient outcomes. ⋯ Although dysnatremia may not directly impact functional outcome or vasospasm risk, hypernatremia may prolong hospital length of stay. Judicious use of hypertonic saline solutions and avoidance of unnecessary dysnatremia in patients with aSAH should be considered.
