To evaluate the efficacy of the combined approach of preoperative endovascular embolization (EE) and surgical excision (SE) for scalp arteriovenous malformation (AVM) and present an illustrative case report. ⋯ The management of scalp AVMs can be challenging; therefore, focused, and accurate identification of the complexity of the vascular anatomy is required. The combined method of preoperative EE and SE showed satisfactory outcomes with low rates of complications and recurrence; thus, we recommend this approach for the management of scalp AVMs.

Idiopathic Intracranial Hypertension (IIH) is a condition characterized by elevated intracranial pressure. Although several mechanisms have been proposed as underlying causes of IIH, no identifiable causative factor has been determined for this condition. Initial treatments focus on weight or CSF reduction, but severe cases may require surgery. This study compares outcomes in IIH patients treated with lumboperitoneal shunts (LPSs) versus ventriculoperitoneal shunts (VPSs). ⋯ The interventions showed general equivalence in complications, shunt failure, and other outcomes, but LPS seems to hold an advantage in improving headaches. Substantial heterogeneity highlights the need for more conclusive evidence, emphasizing the crucial role for further studies. The findings underscore the importance of considering a tailored decision between VPS and LPS for the management of IIH patients.

Brain abscesses caused by sinonasal infections have become more common during the coronavirus pandemic, particularly due to the increase in sinonasal mucormycosis. This study aimed to evaluate the efficacy and safety of endoscopic endonasal brain abscess drainage as a therapeutic technique for these cases. ⋯ Based on the results of this study, endoscopic endonasal brain abscess drainage is considered a viable treatment option for skull base brain abscesses caused by sinonasal infections. Further research in this field can help establish this technique as a mainstay approach for managing brain abscesses at the skull base.

Spontaneous spinal arthrodesis (SSA) is a phenomenon of spontaneous fusion, and SSA is not rare in posttraumatic thoracolumbar kyphosis (PTK). However, few reports have focused on SSA in patients with PTK. The objective of this study was to investigate the prevalence, features, and predictive factors of SSA in patients with PTK. ⋯ SSA in PTK was common, and the SSA sign presented in various patterns, which might have implications for surgical decisions. AWHL was the independent predictor for SSA.

This study evaluates ChatGPT's performance in diagnosing and managing spinal pathologies. ⋯ While helpful in the medical field, ChatGPT falls short in providing reliable management recommendations, with a 30% misdiagnosis rate and 53% mismanagement rate in our study. Its limitations, including reliance on outdated data and the inability to interactively gather patient information, must be acknowledged. Surgeons should use ChatGPT cautiously as a supplementary tool rather than a substitute for their clinical expertise, as the complexities of healthcare demand human judgment and interaction.
