Watertight duraplasty is essential for surgical management of traumatic anterior skull base (ASB) dural defect but challenging in the deep and narrow operative corridor. Here, the authors report a trans-defect underlay watertight duraplasty (TDUWD) technique for traumatic ASB dural defect. ⋯ Use of TDUWD for traumatic ASB dural defect results in an immediate, 1-stage, and definitive correction of CSF leak and seems to be simple, safe, and reliable for large and deeply located dural defects.

Neurosurgery is a specialty that has been dominated by males. Although there has been an increase in the number of women in the field, it is not yet close to being equal. Some noteworthy women who have carved the path for other women to follow in their footsteps include Drs. Sofía Ionescu and Diana Beck, the first and second female neurosurgeons worldwide, respectively. However, there are limited publications on Dr. María Cristina García-Sancho, the first Latina neurosurgeon. ⋯ Her expertise allowed her to pioneer a revolutionary advancement known as the one-step bilateral cordotomy. Her perseverance led her to becoming the head of the Department of Neurosurgery at the National Cancer Institute of Mexico and co-found the Mexican Society of Neurological Surgery, where she served on the board of directors. This review aims to advocate for an equitable environment in the field of neurosurgery with Dr. García-Sancho's story.

The treatment and understanding of superior semicircular canal dehiscence (SSCD) has seen significant developments over the past 25 years. Bibliographic analysis can provide insight into the evolution of research as well as highlight emerging areas. Reviewing a large volume of publications provides valuable insights into the citation patterns and collaborations of research groups. This study seeks to offer a comprehensive historical overview of SSCD and leading authors. ⋯ SSCD has been highly researched in aspects of symptomatology, diagnosis, and treatment, as indicated by many highly cited articles that relate. However, the production of highly cited articles on SSCD displays a significant decrease after 2013, with only 17 of the top cited articles published since then.

In 2019, 22% of adults in the United States reported speaking a language other than English at home, representing 52% growth since 2000. This diversity in languages - and resulting possible communication barriers - represents a potential challenge to effective care. In this manuscript, we summarize clinical outcomes and healthcare utilization patterns of adult and pediatric neurosurgical patients who are non-English primary language speakers (NEPLS). ⋯ There is a paucity of literature reporting outcomes among NEPLS. It is critical to examine NEPLS patients' outcomes and experiences, as language barriers are potentially modifiable demographic factors. We present a framework that demonstrates opportunities for further research to improve quality of care.
