To examine the association between vertebral cancellous Hounsfield units (HUs), age, bone mineral density, and T-score in a sample of Chinese adults. ⋯ From the findings of this study, it can be concluded that HUs may be a potential predictor of bone health, with implications for presurgical assessment of the quality of bone-screw interfaces for spinal surgery.

There exists a complex and ever-evolving relationship between social media and medicine. This study investigates the usage of X (formerly Twitter) among neurosurgeons and explores how virtual engagement potentially impacts this specialty. ⋯ Neurosurgeons of all ages use X to advance their careers and stay updated. However, the utilization of this influential platform likely varies depending on the current practice setting and individual career goals. Neurosurgeons on X appear to have the greatest influence within an academic context, particularly when promoting professional events.

Severe craniofacial fractures may present different needs in treating intracranial lesions over facial injuries. This paper examines the results of our strategy, consisting of a single-stage combined neurosurgical-maxillofacial treatment. ⋯ The one-stage surgical treatment of complex craniofacial fractures has numerous advantages, including the possibility of reducing facial fractures without the risk of CSF leaks. It also eliminates the need for repeated procedures in fragile patients, and the need to dismantle the facial reconstruction if the skull base repair is performed later. The main issue is the surgical timing, considering that the maxillofacial surgeon usually favors early facial repair, whereas the neurosurgeon generally prefers delayed manipulation of the contused frontal lobes. A timeframe of 10-14 days after trauma may be a good compromise for safe procedures with excellent neurologic and functional outcomes.

Intracranial meningioma resection is associated with multiple acute postoperative complications, including cerebrovascular accidents, surgical site infections, and pneumonia. There is a paucity of research on the postoperative timeframe of these complications. Therefore, our objective is to characterize intracranial meningioma resection complications' time courses. ⋯ Postoperative meningioma resection complications have varying morbidity and timeframes. Surgeons should be aware of complication timing to better manage postoperative care.

Watertight closure of dura mater after intracranial surgery can avoid cerebrospinal fluid leakage and central nervous system infection and herniation. When primary closure is not possible, the pericranium is the preferential choice. When it is not available, a dural substitute becomes necessary. Bovine pericardium treated with polyethylene glycol and ethanol is herein tested as a dural substitute. ⋯ Bovine pericardium treated with polyethylene glycol and ethanol was comparable to pericranium as a dural substitute. More studies are encouraged to certify our findings.
