To investigate the relationship between muscle quality and 1) patient-reported outcomes and 2) surgical outcomes after lumbar microdiscectomy surgery. ⋯ Our analysis demonstrated that higher psoas muscle quality was associated with greater physical improvement postoperatively. Muscle quality did not affect surgical readmissions or reoperations. Additional studies are needed for further assessment of the implications of muscle quality on postoperative outcomes.

Numerous studies suggest that the gut microbiota closely linked to cerebrovascular diseases, such as Intracranial aneurysm (IA) and aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage (aSAH). Nevertheless, the confirmation of a definitive causal connection between gut microbiota, IA, and aSAH is still pending. The aim of our research is to explore the potential bidirectional causality among them. ⋯ This MR analysis investigated the causal associations between gut microbiota, IA, and aSAH risks. The findings expanded current knowledge of the microbiota-gut-brain axis and offered novel perspectives on preventing and managing these conditions.

One of the most frequent phenomena in the follow-up of glioblastoma is pseudoprogression, present in up to half of cases. The clinical usefulness of discriminating this phenomenon through magnetic resonance imaging and nuclear medicine has not yet been standardized; in this study, we used machine learning on multiparametric magnetic resonance imaging to explore discriminators of this phenomenon. ⋯ True tumor progression preserves the multidimensional characteristics of the basal tumor at the voxel and region of interest level, resulting in a characteristic differential pattern when supervised learning is used.

This study analyzed the effectiveness and safety of ultra-low dose fluorescein sodium (FL)-guided malignant glioma resection and its potential to predict the pathological characteristics of glioma. ⋯ Ultra-low-dose FL-guided resection of malignant gliomas is safe and effective. The Ki67 positivity rate was directly proportional to the intensity of FL, indicating its potential to predict gliomas during pathological examination.

Off-label use of pipeline embolization devices (PEDs) has been increasingly used for endovascular treatment of intracranial aneurysms. Numerous articles have highlighted the safety and effectiveness of PED placement from independent centers for both on- and off-label indications. There remains a paucity of information that considers overall safety and efficacy of off-label PED placement across the existing literature. Our objective is to systematically review the safety and occlusion outcomes of PED off-label use in intracranial aneurysm embolization. ⋯ Despite variations in results observed in single-center studies, this meta-analysis provides evidence supporting the safety and efficacy of PED off-label use.
