To explore the predictive value of transcranial Doppler ultrasound (TCD) combined with quantitative electroencephalogram (QEEG) in delayed cerebral ischemia (DCI) caused by aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage (aSAH). ⋯ Patients with aSAH complicated by DCI have relatively higher MBFV of middle cerebral artery and ADR. Combined use of the 2 indicators can provide reference for early prediction of DCI in aSAH patients.

Depression and anxiety are common in patients undergoing spinal surgery and might negatively impact outcomes. This study investigates the possible effect of these diagnoses on patient reported outcomes following lumbar fusion. ⋯ The present study showed similar improvement in PROMs following lumbar fusion for patients with anxiety and depression compared to healthy controls. These data suggest these patients are no less likely to benefit from appropriately planned lumbar fusion.

To investigate the influence of gender on patient preferences during the selection of neurosurgeons. ⋯ Although expertise and professionalism are of paramount importance, there is a clear preference for female neurosurgeons, especially among female patients. These findings underscore the importance of recognizing and accommodating patients' preferences to ensure neurosurgical care aligns with patient comfort, expectations, and the broader movement towards gender equality.

Radiation necrosis (RN) after stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS) in brain metastases has been extensively evaluated, and RN is correlated with various risk factors. However, no study comprehensively analyzed the correlation between RN and the border zones of the brain that are vulnerable to ischemia. We hypothesized that patients with tumors in the border zone are at high risk of RN. Hence, the current study aimed to assess the correlation between border zone lesions and RN, with consideration of other predetermined factors. ⋯ Patients with tumors in the border zone are at high risk of RN. The potential risks of RN can be attributed hypothetically to hypoperfusion. Hence, the association between RN and border zone lesions seems reasonable.

Lumbosacral transitional vertebrae (LSTV) are congenital anomalies of the L5-S1 segments characterized by either sacralization of the most caudal lumbar vertebra or lumbarization of the most cephalad sacral vertebra. This variation in anatomy exposes patients to additional surgical risks. ⋯ LSTV represents a constellation of changes in anatomy beyond just a sacralized or lumbarized vertebra. These anatomical differences expose the patient to additional surgical risks. This case and review of the literature highlight avoidable complications and in particular wrong level surgery.
