Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is a major cause of physical disabilities worldwide. Herein, we aimed to investigate the factors contributing to post-discharge recovery in patients who were discharged with an unfavorable outcome. ⋯ This study found that the majority of patients discharged with an unfavorable functional status were able to achieve a favorable outcome within 6 months. The novel post-discharge recovery in TBI patients might be a useful tool for illuminating the factors associated with a significant improvement after discharge.

Acute rupture and hemorrhage of pediatric brain arteriovenous malformations (AVMs) may lead to cerebral herniation or intractable intracranial hypertension, necessitating emerging surgical interventions to alleviate intracranial pressure. However, there is still controversy regarding the timing of treatment for ruptured AVMs. This study aimed to assess the feasibility of utilizing three-pillar expansive craniotomy (3PEC) at different times during the treatment of pediatric ruptured supratentorial AVMs. ⋯ Emergency intervention with 3PEC in children experiencing acutely ruptured supratentorial AVMs appears to be feasible. For children requiring delayed management of the AVMs, 3PEC may diminish the risk of rebleeding during the waiting period and shorten the waiting period.

Malignant gliomas are the most prevalent primary malignant cerebral tumors. Preoperative imaging plays an important role, and the prognosis is closely related to surgical resection and histomolecular aspects. Our goal was to correlate Ki67 indexes with tumoral volumetry in semiautomatic segmentation on preoperative magnetic resonance images and residual fluorescence in a 5-ALA-assisted resection cohort. ⋯ There is a correlation between Ki67, the metabolically active tumoral volumes (WT and ET), and 5-ALA residual fluorescence. Methodological inconsistencies are probably responsible for contradictory literature findings, and further prospective studies are needed to validate and reproduce these findings.

A significant dilemma exists for the surgical plan of spinal metastases with a spinal instability neoplastic score (SINS) of 7-12. Our aim is to trim down this range of "potential instability" and find a virtual cut-off value for instrumentation. ⋯ SINS 9-10 seems to be the actual ambiguous subset in the wider subgroup of the 'potentially unstable' category SINS 7-12, like a 'Matryoshka doll'. A SINS value of 9 can be seen as a cut-off value for instrumentation.

To develop and validate natural language processing-driven artificial intelligence (AI) models for the diagnosis of lumbar disc herniation (LDH) with L5 and S1 radiculopathy using electronic health records (EHRs). ⋯ This study provides preliminary validation of the concept that natural language processing-driven AI models can be used for the diagnosis of lumbar disease using EHRs. This study could pave the way for future research that may develop more comprehensive and clinically impactful AI-driven diagnostic systems.
