Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter StudyAssociation of impaired linear growth and worse neurodevelopmental outcome in infants with single ventricle physiology: a report from the pediatric heart network infant single ventricle trial.
To describe neurodevelopmental outcomes in infants with single ventricle (SV) physiology and determine factors associated with worse outcomes. ⋯ Neurodevelopmental outcome at 14 months of age is impaired in infants with SV physiology. Low height trajectory and high BNP trajectory were associated with worse neurodevelopmental outcomes. Efforts to improve nutritional status alone may not improve neurodevelopmental outcomes.

Multicenter Study Comparative StudyComparative effectiveness of empiric β-lactam monotherapy and β-lactam-macrolide combination therapy in children hospitalized with community-acquired pneumonia.
To determine the comparative effectiveness of β-lactam monotherapy and β-lactam and macrolide combination therapy on clinical outcomes in the treatment of children hospitalized with community-acquired pneumonia (CAP). ⋯ School-aged patients hospitalized with CAP who received β-lactam plus macrolide combination therapy have a shorter length of stay and similar rates of readmission compared with school-aged patients who receive β-lactam monotherapy.

Multicenter StudyHemodynamic effects of fluid restriction in preterm infants with significant patent ductus arteriosus.
To determine the hemodynamic impact of fluid restriction in preterm newborns with significant patent ductus arteriosus. ⋯ Our results do not support the hypothesis that fluid restriction has beneficial effects on pulmonary or systemic hemodynamics in preterm newborns.

Multicenter StudyPharmacokinetics of intravenous lorazepam in pediatric patients with and without status epilepticus.
To evaluate the single dose pharmacokinetics of an intravenous dose of lorazepam in pediatric patients treated for status epilepticus (SE) or with a history of SE. ⋯ Lorazepam pharmacokinetics in convulsive SE is similar to earlier pharmacokinetics measured in pediatric patients with cancer, except for longer half-life, and similar to adult pharmacokinetics parameters except for increased clearance.

Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter StudyEvolution of encephalopathy during whole body hypothermia for neonatal hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy.
To examine the predictive ability of stage of hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy (HIE) for death or moderate/severe disability at 18 months among neonates undergoing hypothermia. ⋯ On serial neurologic examinations, improvement in stage of HIE was associated with cooling. Persistence of severe HIE at 72 hours and an abnormal neurologic exam at discharge were associated with a greater risk of death or disability.
