Multicenter StudyEpidemiology and Etiology of Invasive Bacterial Infection in Infants ≤60 Days Old Treated in Emergency Departments.
To help guide empiric treatment of infants ≤60 days old with suspected invasive bacterial infection by describing pathogens and their antimicrobial susceptibilities. ⋯ For most infants ≤60 days old evaluated in a pediatric emergency department for suspected invasive bacterial infection, the combination of ampicillin plus either gentamicin or a third-generation cephalosporin is an appropriate empiric antimicrobial treatment regimen. Of the pathogens isolated from infants with invasive bacterial infection, 11% were resistant to third-generation cephalosporins alone.

Multicenter StudyPrescription Drug Shortages: Implications for Ambulatory Pediatrics.
To describe contemporary drug shortages affecting general ambulatory pediatrics. ⋯ Drug shortages affected a substantial number of agents used in general ambulatory pediatrics. Shortages for single-source products are a concern if a suitable alternative is unavailable. Providers working in the ambulatory setting must be aware of current shortages and implement mitigation strategies to optimize patient care.

Multicenter Study Observational StudyPoint-of-Care Ultrasound for the Diagnosis of Skull Fractures in Children Younger Than Two Years of Age.
To determine the accuracy of skull point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) for identifying fractures in children younger than 2 years of age with signs of head trauma, and the ability of POCUS to identify the type and depth of fracture depression. ⋯ POCUS performed by emergency physicians may identify the type and depth of fractures in infants with local physical signs of head trauma with substantial accuracy. Emergency physicians should consider POCUS as an adjunct to clinical evaluation and prediction rules for traumatic brain injuries in children younger than 2 years of age.

Multicenter Study Observational StudyDelivery Room Resuscitation and Short-Term Outcomes in Moderately Preterm Infants.
To describe the frequency and extent of delivery room resuscitation and evaluate the association of delivery room resuscitation with neonatal outcomes in moderately preterm (MPT) infants. ⋯ The majority of MPT infants receive some level of delivery room resuscitation. Increased intensity of delivery room interventions was associated with prolonged respiratory and nutritional support, increased mortality, and a longer length of stay.

Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter StudyDexamethasone for Parapneumonic Pleural Effusion: A Randomized, Double-Blind, Clinical Trial.
To assess whether dexamethasone (DXM) decreases the time to recovery in patients with parapneumonic pleural effusion. ⋯ In this trial, DXM seemed to be a safe and effective adjunctive therapy for parapneumonic pleural effusion.
