The Effect of Perioperative Intravenous Iron on Hemoglobin in Surgical Patients: A Meta-Analysis.
Patient blood management aims to maintain hemoglobin level, minimize blood loss, and avoid unnecessary blood transfusion. Ferric carboxymaltose, an intravenous iron agent, was included as a part of surgical patient blood management strategy. However, it is still controversial that ferric carboxymaltose can reduce transfusion requirements. The purpose of this systematic review and meta-analysis is to evaluate the benefits of perioperative ferric carboxymaltose on the postoperative hematological parameters and transfusion requirements. ⋯ This study supports that ferric carboxymaltose may increase the postoperative hemoglobin level in surgical patients. However, transfusion requirements could not be reduced by ferric carboxymaltose. Optimal dose and time should be further analyzed.

The Effect of Perioperative Music on the Stress Response to Surgery: A Meta-analysis.
Current perioperative patient care aims to maintain homeostasis by attenuation of the stress response to surgery, as a more vigorous stress response can have detrimental effects on postoperative recovery. This systematic review and meta-analysis aims to assess the effect of perioperative music on the physiological stress response to surgery. ⋯ Perioperative music can attenuate the neuroendocrine stress response to surgery.

Segmentectomy Versus Wedge Resection for Stage I Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer: A Meta-analysis.
Segmentectomy and wedge resection have been recommended as appropriate surgical treatments for patients with poor pulmonary function or major comorbidities. However, for stage I non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), it is still undecided whether survival is better with segmentectomy or with wedge resection. ⋯ Survival after lobar resection for stage I NSCLC is significantly better with segmentectomy than with wedge resection.

Stereotactic Body Radiotherapy Versus Surgery for Early-Stage Non-Small-Cell Lung Cancer.
Surgery is the gold standard therapy for patients with early-stage non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC). However, stereotactic body radiotherapy (SBRT) may provide as an alternative for patients who are medically inoperable or refuse surgical resection. The optimal treatment (SBRT or surgery) for patients with early-stage NSCLC is not clear. ⋯ Our results found a superior OS and long-term DC for early-stage NSCLC after surgery compared with SBRT after propensity score matching.

Silver-containing dressing for surgical site infection in clean and clean-contaminated operations: a systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials.
Silver-containing dressings for the prevention of surgical site infections (SSIs) remained controversial, and accumulating evidence was lacking, so a meta-analysis was conducted to systematically assess the effectiveness and safety of silver-containing dressings for clean and clean-contaminated surgical incisions. ⋯ The current available evidence indicated that silver-containing dressing as compared with silver-free dressing was not associated with lower incidence of SSIs. Considering the quality of evidence ranking very low, further studies with higher quality should be warranted.
