Thirty-year experience with a bileaflet mechanical valve prosthesis.
The objective was to evaluate the long-term outcomes of the St Jude Medical (Saint Paul, Minn) mechanical valve prosthesis implantation. ⋯ Annual follow-up of all of our patients receiving a St Jude Medical mechanical valves prosthesis has allowed better identification valve-related issues and events. After 3 decades of observation with close follow-up, the St Jude Medical mechanical valve continues to be a reliable prosthesis.

Anatomic feasibility of an endovascular valve-carrying conduit for the treatment of type A aortic dissection.
The study objective was to screen patients with acute type A aortic dissection for anatomic feasibility of ascending aortic endovascular treatment with a valve-carrying conduit. ⋯ Two thirds of all patients who present with type A dissections are potential candidates for treatment with endovascular valve-carrying conduits, but most patients would require tapered stent-grafts.

Outcomes after mechanical aortic valve replacement in children and young adults with congenital heart disease.
There are little recent data on the outcomes of mechanical aortic valve replacement (AVR) in children and young adults with congenital aortic valve disease. We sought to review the survival and associated thromboembolic or bleeding complications after mechanical AVR at a single center. ⋯ Mechanical AVR in patients with congenital heart disease has excellent short- and midterm outcomes. Younger age was an independent predictor of reoperation.
