Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter StudyRandomized phase II trial of pemetrexed-cisplatin plus bevacizumab or thoracic radiotherapy followed by surgery for stage IIIA (N2) nonsquamous non-small cell lung cancer.
Personalized Induction Therapy-1 is a multicenter, randomized phase II selection design trial of the efficacy and safety of platinum-doublet induction chemotherapy plus angiogenesis inhibitors/concurrent thoracic radiotherapy (TRT) followed by surgery for stage IIIA (N2) nonsquamous non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). ⋯ Although not significant, the 2-year PFS rate was higher in the TRT arm than in the bevacizumab arm. Fatal surgical complications were observed only in the bevacizumab arm. Therefore, pemetrexed-cisplatin with concurrent TRT was chosen as the investigational induction treatment strategy for future phase III trials.

ReviewIs there referral bias in outcomes of septal myectomy for hypertrophic cardiomyopathy?
To determine the potential impact of referral bias on short- and long-term outcomes following septal myectomy for hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. ⋯ Compared with distant referrals, local patients who undergo septal myectomy at our institution have more comorbid conditions, and require more concomitant surgical procedures. Despite these differences, referral patterns did not impact early or late outcomes following transaortic septal myectomy.

Meta AnalysisUtility and safety of coronary angiography in patients with acute infective endocarditis who required surgery.
To assess the benefit/risk ratio to perform a coronary angiography (CA) before surgery for infective endocarditis (IE). ⋯ In daily practice, two-thirds of the patients with acute IE who required surgery have a preoperative CA leading to a combined CABG in 18% of the patients. Our results suggest that to perform a preoperative CA in this context is not associated with improved prognosis.
