Hyperexcitability of bladder afferent neurons associated with reduction of Kv1.4 α-subunit in rats with spinal cord injury.
To clarify the functional and molecular mechanisms inducing hyperexcitability of C-fiber bladder afferent pathways after spinal cord injury we examined changes in the electrophysiological properties of bladder afferent neurons, focusing especially on voltage-gated K channels. ⋯ Results indicate that the excitability of capsaicin sensitive C-fiber bladder afferent neurons is increased in association with reductions in transient A-type K+ current density and Kv1.4 α-subunit expression in injured rats. Thus, the Kv1.4 α-subunit could be a molecular target for treating overactive bladder due to neurogenic detrusor overactivity.

Does the number of cycles of cisplatin based chemotherapy have any effect on renal function in patients with testicular germ cell tumor?
We assessed the effects of the number of cisplatin, etoposide and bleomycin cycles on long-term renal function. ⋯ Patients with testicular tumors who received cisplatin based chemotherapy showed a significant decrease in the estimated glomerular filtration rate and a significant increase in new onset stage 3 chronic kidney disease compared to patients who received no cycle. However, in patients at high risk with stage I nonseminomatous germ cell tumor who elected 2 cycles of cisplatin, etoposide and bleomycin the chemotherapy had no statistically significant effect on these parameters compared to those in patients who received no chemotherapy.

Review Meta AnalysisNonantibiotic prophylaxis for recurrent urinary tract infections: a systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials.
Increasing antimicrobial resistance has stimulated interest in nonantibiotic prophylaxis of recurrent urinary tract infections. We assessed the effectiveness, tolerability and safety of nonantibiotic prophylaxis in adults with recurrent urinary tract infections. ⋯ The evidence of the effectiveness of the oral immunostimulant OM-89 is promising. Although sometimes statistically significant, pooled findings for the other interventions should be considered tentative until corroborated by more research. Large head-to-head trials should be performed to optimally inform clinical decision making.

Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter StudyThe prostatic urethral lift for the treatment of lower urinary tract symptoms associated with prostate enlargement due to benign prostatic hyperplasia: the L.I.F.T. Study.
We report the first multicenter randomized blinded trial of the prostatic urethral lift for the treatment of lower urinary tract symptoms secondary to benign prostatic hyperplasia. ⋯ The prostatic urethral lift, reliably performed with the patient under local anesthesia, provides rapid and sustained improvement in symptoms and flow, while preserving sexual function.

Prognostic impact of preoperative neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio in localized nonclear cell renal cell carcinoma.
The preoperative neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio was proposed as a prognostic factor for localized clear cell renal cell carcinoma. We evaluated its role in nonclear cell renal cell carcinoma. ⋯ The neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio is an independent prognostic factor for disease-free survival after surgery with curative intent for localized nonclear cell renal cell carcinoma. It significantly increases the accuracy of established prognostic factors. The neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio may provide a meaningful adjunct for patient counseling and clinical trial design.
