Multicenter Study Comparative StudyNoninvasive outcome measures of urinary incontinence and lower urinary tract symptoms: a multicenter study of micturition diary and pad tests.
We assessed the test-retest reliability of a 24, 48 and 72-hour micturition diary and pad test in patients referred for the evaluation of urinary incontinence and lower urinary tract symptoms. ⋯ The 24-hour pad test and micturition diary are reliable instruments for assessing the degree of urinary loss and number of incontinent episodes, respectively. Increasing test duration to 48 and 72 hours increases reliability but is associated with decreased patient compliance.

Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter Study Clinical TrialWeekly mitomycin C followed by monthly bacillus Calmette-Guerin or alternating monthly interferon-alpha2B and bacillus Calmette-Guerin for prophylaxis of recurrent papillary superficial bladder carcinoma.
We evaluated alternatives to bacillus Calmette-Guerin (BCG) monotherapy using a new combination of chemotherapy and immunotherapy for recurrent superficial bladder carcinoma. ⋯ Monthly BCG given for up to 1 year preceded by perioperative and an additional 4 weekly mitomycin C instillations is a well tolerated mode of instillation therapy, providing excellent tumor control comparable to that of the best reported instillation regimens. No benefit was obtained by alternating interferon-alpha2b with BCG.

Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter Study Clinical TrialSacral neuromodulation in the treatment of urgency-frequency symptoms: a multicenter study on efficacy and safety.
Neuromodulation of sacral nerves has shown promising results in correcting voiding dysfunction. We report the results of a multicenter trial designed to assess the efficacy of sacral nerve neuromodulation in patients presenting with refractory urinary urgency-frequency. ⋯ Neuromodulation of the sacral nerves is an effective, safe therapy that successfully treats significant symptoms of refractory urgency-frequency.

Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter Study Clinical TrialResults of a randomized phase III trial of sequential intravesical therapy with mitomycin C and bacillus Calmette-Guerin versus mitomycin C alone in patients with superficial bladder cancer.
We study toxicity and efficacy of sequential intravesical therapy with mitomycin C and bacillus Calmette-Guerin (BCG) in patients with intermediate or high risk superficial bladder cancer compared to the use of intravesical mitomycin C alone. ⋯ We did not find any major differences in toxicity or treatment efficacy with intravesical mitomycin C and the sequential use of BCG or mitomycin C for intermediate and high risk superficial papillary bladder cancer.

Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter Study Comparative Study Clinical TrialA randomized prospective study comparing long-term intravesical instillations of mitomycin C and bacillus Calmette-Guerin in patients with superficial bladder carcinoma.
We compared the efficacy and toxicity of long-term mitomycin C versus bacillus Calmette-Guerin (BCG) instillation in patients at high risk for recurrence and progression of superficial bladder carcinoma. ⋯ The majority of patients tolerated long-term intravesical therapy well. BCG instillation was hampered by more frequent side effects. BCG was superior regarding recurrence prophylaxis, since patients given BCG had fewer recurrences and a significantly longer time to treatment failure compared to those treated with mitomycin C. No statistically significant difference was observed regarding progression.
