In Israel, the recommendation for the use of propofol is age limited. Furthermore, procedural sedations involving propofol must be performed only by anesthesiologists. Propofol is frequently used in the PICUs in Israel. ⋯ Off-label use of propofol is an accepted practice in Israeli PICUs. Propofol has a unique profile that makes it an attractive sedative agent in many clinical settings. PICU physicians may want to prescribe it, at least for short periods and at low doses.

Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care Society 2014 Consensus Statement: Pharmacotherapies in Cardiac Critical Care Chronic Heart Failure.
Heart failure is a serious complication that can occur in patients with a variety of congenital and acquired disorders including congenital heart disease, cardiomyopathy, and myocarditis. Furthermore, heart failure patients comprise an increasing number of ICU admissions. Thus, it is important for those caring for patients with critical cardiovascular disease to have a thorough understanding of the medications used for the treatment of heart failure. The aim of this review is to provide an overview, rationale, indications, and adverse effects of medications used in the treatment of chronic heart failure. ⋯ Heart failure patients are in an important population of critically ill children. The pharmacologic approach to these patients is aimed at treating symptoms of congestion and/or poor perfusion and improving long-term outcomes.
